    What book are you?

You're Lolita! by Vladimir Nabokov Considered by most to be depraved and immoral, you are obsessed with sex. What really tantalizes you is that which deviates from societal standards in every way, though you admit that this probably isn't the best and you're not sure what causes this desire...

What would the other mysteries be? (Spoilers)

Here perhaps is a little philosophical game. In the fifth book, the Department of Mysteries has twelve rooms, but we learn about only six of them: Death. Time. Space. Clairvoyance. Thought. Love. What do you think are six more of the great mysteries that deserve rooms?

    poetry forum

Good suggestion. I would be very interested in a forum like that.

    Nanowrimo

Thank you. If enough BARflys get interested by November, we might want to have a NaNo forum where each of us can start a thread for posting our daily work, sharing our stress, etc. To protect the novels, however, it would have to be off the web, for members only. Can that be done here?

    Nanowrimo

I made it to 50k last year, and I have spent the months since then finishing it and revising it. Nano can be a great jump-starter.

    Great Quote

Yes, that's a good quote, and I would add that those who would censor books would appreciate its implications at least as much as readers.

    Please offer ..

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word. Martin Luther King, Jr.

What is/are your most valuable book(s)?

My husband and I dabble in book-dealing, so we have acquired a few favorite items for ourselves too. I have an autographed copy of Eloise. Oooh, I just love, love, love it. It's an early edition--Eloise likes grass instead of dandelions. I also have a first edition Huckleberry Finn, but...

    American Girl series...

The relatively non-fiction books about what life was like in the eras that the girls lived in were also an interesting part of the series for me.

    The Addams Family

Christina Ricci was perfect as Wednesday, though overall I'm not a big fan of the movies. I think they were based more on the old TV show than the classic Charles Addams cartoons. If you've never seen the old show, try to catch some reruns. Totally sitcom kitch, though Morticia was sexy...

Mark Twain: Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn

Also, Huck sometimes tells people that Jim belongs to him. I can't think of a single scene in the book where Jim claims to be free. Historically, he would never have tried it, because free Blacks in the slave states had to carry proof with them that they were free.

What do you think would be the toughest genre to write?

This can actually be used to advantage. Some readers have a little discomfort or embarrassment about reading sex scenes, so adding a humorous moment gives them a chance to ease that through laughter.

    Books on writing

Here are two books I always recommend: Bird by Bird. Stein on Writing. They are excellent for inspiration, for walking you through the process, and for keeping your standards high.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy. The graphic novels as well as the movie. And that's the guiltiest pleasure I'm ever going to confess to on the Internet.

    Adolf Hitler: Mein Kampf

Psst. Over here. No, look the other way. Pretend you don't know me. The book is in the public domain in Australia, but not in the U.S. The full text is online at Gutenberg Australia. Don't click here: http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks02/0200601.txt
