Things you are supposed to be doing but you aren't!

I am supposed to be researching Mark Twain's advice on writing today, but I have ended up just rereading some of his works instead. Twain himself is tempting me away from researching him!

    Kurt Vonnegut

Oh yes. Cat's Cradle--good one. I forgot to mention it. Some of the catchphrases in it have entered popular culture, even if people don't realize it. It's an important book. I suggest everyone read it.

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Mark Twain couldn't put pen to paper without making me laugh. The early chapters of Tom Sawyer are a good example.

What is the one passage in any book that has made you laugh the most?

The Hatter was the first to break the silence. 'What day of the month is it?' he said, turning to Alice: he had taken his watch out of his pocket, and was looking at it uneasily, shaking it every now and then, and holding it to his ear. Alice considered a little, and then said 'The...

    Be it resolved

Yes. And while I'm at it, why can't we have a perfect world where I would live in this fourth-floor walkup and books would have no weight?

What do you use as a bookmark?

Some of our books are collector's items. We use strips of acid-free paper. We're boring. Of course, this means that we have to have supplies of those bookmarks all over the apartment, because we might be reading anywhere and need one. In fact, when I get a book and put it on my to-read...

    what we look like.

I used my real name; I have a photo of myself in my profile; and I chose the avatar of a cuddly bookworm because that's what I am.

    John Steinbeck

Ah, Steinbeck. His books are labelled Great Literature, so a lot of people are afraid of them. My husband and I were in the play Of Mice and Men in college, so it has a special place in our hearts. Grapes of Wrath--omigod, did I cry. I believe this is his richest and most inspired book...
