From your posts it seemed that you had major problems with his systems. I apologise if thise was not the case.
Nothing in his systems suggests that he does anything to the contrary. Perhaps he doesn't have to engage himself to the same extent as you to enjoy a novel. Perhaps he is better at...
Darn you, ions - I was hoping to get away with that :D
I guess I'll do one after work, but it won't be very long or good because I have never really done one before.
Have you read any of his books?
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon might be up your ally (the first book being Outlander or Cross Stitch, depending on where you live):
Is that the kind of multi-genre you were looking for?
I personally don't read two books at a time, but judging from this thread, a majority of others do. AquaBlue is not the only one with a "wierd sort of impulsive behavioural pattern", it seems. Perhaps we are the ones with this infliction, seeing as how we seem to be in the minority.
Again, I...
You may enjoy Guy Gavriel Kay's books (they're mostly fantasy, I believe). I just read The Lions of Al-Rassan and I really loved it, and I'm pretty sure that most people tote this one as his best, so I think you should start with this one. I'm not too sure about his other books, though - ask DS...
BAR has really expanded my reading tastes - before coming here I was having trouble finding books to read and was sticking mainly to fantasy. Boy, have things changed now! I love coming here and reading the discussions and reviews of books - it enables me to broaden my reading even further. I...
Philippa Gregory does this with her books. I just finished The Virgin's Lover and at the end she included an author's note detailing the existing facts about some of the plots she used during the story. I thought that was great.
I read the introductions after I've finished the book, as I find that sometimes plot points are revealed in the introduction. Penguin Classics are especially bad for that - they even reveal future events in the little footnotes scattered throughout the book
Not yet - I'm planning on seeing it tomorrow. I don't like the idea of parts of it being scripted, although sa Shade pointed out, I'm guessing that he just didn't have enough "true" encounters that were funny enough to be included. I did hear something about a DVD that's been released using only...
All the bells in Norfolk were ringing for Elizabeth, pounding the peal into Amy's head, first the treble bell screaming out like a mad woman, and then the whole agonising, jangling sob till the great bell boomed a warning that the whole discordant carillon was about to shriek out again.
The...
Did you ever see any of Borat's segments on Da Ali G Show, Shade? Or is this the first time you have come into contact with the character?
Borat doesn't really display Sacha's true comic genius - Ali G interacts with far more prominent citizens and is a lot funnier.
I had a slow month and only managed to finish one book, as I had exams:
Bare Bones by Kathy Reichs 3/5
I also abandoned As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any books that are similar to Catch-22, or books by Jonathan Safran Foer.
I'm trying to think of a book to get my brother for Christmas.
Many thanks in advance :D
