Outlander by Diana Gabaldon might be what you are looking for. It's about a woman from 1940s England who time-travels to Scotland in the 1700s, and falls in love with a highlander despite being married back in her time.
I've only kept a record from September and I haven't read much this year, but from what I can remember my favourites were:
The Crimson Petal and the White -- Michel Faber
Ghostwritten -- David Mitchell
London: the biography -- Peter Ackroyd
A Game of Thrones -- George R R Martin
I think the first two or three have come out. I read the first in the series a few years back, but haven't looked at the others. I plan to read the first series before working on the second, as I read the first such a long time ago!
Tomorrow, When the War Began series by John Marsden. Starts with the book of the same name :)
If you're interested, he has starting writing a follow-up series about the people after the war, starting with The Ellie Chronicles.
This was a strange period, even for a time of civil war, when horrible surprise and uncertainty, sickness and blight upon the land seemed as commonplace as dogs barking in the night
-Sylvia -- Bryce Courtenay
It is! Oo I'm excited already!

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Wolf and would like to try him out, but his list of works is rather daunting! Any Wolf fans out there? Can anyone recommend a few of his books as starters?
I've just finished Ghostwritten, and I like it just as much as everyone else seems to. I can see why it might be called gimmicky, but I liked the fact that the stories overlapped only a fraction - events from other stories were usually given 2-3 sentences tops. It could have become a lot more...
I read this a couple of months back, and really loved it. Made me want to purchase a copy of the encyclopaedia and give it a whack myself....but then I saw the price tag.
I really enjoyed how he managed to mix a bit of his life in amongst the facts. It really mixed it up a bit - plus he has...
