Umberto Eco: The Name Of The Rose

Thanks :) I wasn't sure if it was that, or a book that you read at the same time to break up the time spent on the Eco :o

Umberto Eco: The Name Of The Rose

My apologies for being an ignoramus, but what is a companion reader? Is it kind of like a printed version of Spark's Notes?

    Richard Dawkins: The God Delusion

But many people do believe that they have certain proof. They believe that the Bible is certain proof, or that their 'personal encounter' with 'God' is certain proof, or that their witnessing of 'miracles' is certain proof. Not everyone is as skeptical as you are ;)

    Hello! Paper Back from Japan.

Welcome :D Maybe you could try stocking Salman Rushdie books? He's in the world spotlight at the moment for his 'edgy' book The Satanic Verses, and I believe he won the Booker Prize for Midnight's Children. Stephen King is definitely an author you should be looking into if you are looking...

    Cormac McCarthy: The Road

After finishing the book this afternoon and mulling over it a bit, I still find that I'm on the fence with this one. I loved it - and yet, I feel somehow disappointed. I guess I was just expecting something more, something different - but what that something is, I'm not certain of. It took me...

    Richard Dawkins: The God Delusion

I don't think that you understood what I was saying, possibly because I didn't present it clearly enough. Many Christians do in fact believe that they have certain proof of his existence. This can be the Bible, a 'personal encounter' with 'God', or events that they have percieved as miracles...

    Richard Dawkins: The God Delusion

This comment is completely unfounded. Millions of people worldwide truely believe that God exists, and yet they still fight against dying. I do not know one Christian who doesn't cherish their own life, and the life of others. Have you never heard of people praying for each other when they are...

    Late Night Reading

I get tired easily as well - I'm generally in bed/asleep by 11pm. The latest I've stayed up to read is probably around midnight. I just can't keep my eyes open if I try to go any later than that, and I have trouble focusing on what the words actually mean (I find myself re-reading a majority of...

Carlos Ruiz Zafón: The Shadow of the Wind

I finished reading The Shadow of the Wind about an hour ago, and it took me awhile to figure out how I truely felt about it. What I came up with is that I liked it - but in a The Da Vinci Code kind of way. The writing wasn't overly spectacular, I was never stricken by the beauty of Zafon's...

Ocean's Thirteen. It was really good - better than the first I thought (I haven't seen the second one).

How do you guys read books? I need advice

If you're truely having to look up a lot of words then I'd go with mehastings suggestion and try books that are a bit less dense. I don't think that there's much point in forcing yourself to struggle through a book that you don't understand because then there is less chance of you picking that...

    Author: Most Read...

Enid Blyton for me too. The Secret Island was my favourite book for a long, long time, and I used to reread the Famous Five books like mad.
