what a coincidence, i'm reading the booknow! and the author is coming to our town! i admit it drags out a bit, the story's kinda dull, but the info is great, especially since i've read dracula. it's not necessary, but it's more interesting that way.
i hate it when endings are given away! they do it a lot with classics and dumas translations. so i don't read intros. Or i just read the Dumas in french, where they don't have an intro.
someone mentioned sputnik sweetheart-what is it about?
Everyone seems to be reading Dracula lately..I finished it in October.
Anyway, my books:
In Search of Dracula-4/5
The Merchant of Venice-3.5/5
Webmage(Kelly McCullough)-4.9/5
Captain Blood(Rafael Sabatini)-4/5

Has anyone here read this book? I found it randomly on amazon and when I read the description, I knew that i MUST read it. After getting it out of the library, I fell in love with it. The author has a talent for writing simply in prose while managing to put in a lot of witty remarks, and it's...
the catcher in the rye
Wicked: started out good but got dull
Eragon/Eldest: I have a feeling i'm not the only one here who sees Paolini's lack of talent and overeffort at writing engaging prose. Plus al the stuff he copied.
The English Patient: I was probably too young to read it at 14, but...
this is a very ver hard descision to make, mainly because i have a lot of books i like, and a lot of characters i like for various reasons, some more than others at various times. but mostly it's Artemis Fowl and Athos/Comte de la fere. Artemis for his wit, intelligence, sarcasm, and how he...

i've actually been planning to buy the john matthews book for a while, mostly for the diagram of the ship and the diff. pirate flags in the book. i have another of his books, one about king arthur, and it turned out to be quite good, so i'm looking forward to getting it.
i'll just post the same series(plural!!) of books that I post everywhere: the bartimaeus trilogy, artemis fowl, and the three musketeers trilogy by Dumas.
wow, thanks so much! i'm sorry i didn't find this thread for a couple days.and yep, i got a yummy cake(pirates of the caribbean!) and lots of books and about $125 worth of gift cards to book stores. unfortunately i have 3 piles of books from the library waiting to be read. but i'm forgetting...

I looked, and didn't find a topic on this author, so I've started one. He's one of my absolute favorites. I first read the count of monte cristo(a 1400 page tome that i read during vacation, as a beach book). i cried when i finished it, and then read the musketeer trilogy. by then i was in love...
definately artemis fowl, yes.
i'm not sure if you answered or not, but how old is your brother? I would suggest webmage, but it has adult content.
also, robert a. heinlein. it doesn't have a lot of technology, etc.. in it but it's definately sci fi.
'now, i'm going to do something extremely stupid and dangerous"
'since when is that newsworthy enough to announce?"
'what did i do?"
"do you want the whole list, or just the most recent and relevant bits?"

i'm compiling a whole list right now of funny...
let's see, what's from 2006 and what isn't....hm...well, the books i liked from this year(not that i've read a lot. i tend to read too many historical books) are:

devil's tango

I readthis book a year ago, when I was in ninth grade, and enjoyed it enourmously. the witty dialogue and sarcasm, coupled with the adventure and love story really made this a wonderful book. however, i was rather...
