From what i can tell of what you're saying, you're reading serious books, and not things like Dan Brown, therefore to really understand them you need time. Unless I'm reading a book that is most plot, which I sometimes do, I take time to think about it and even analyze it-it took me ages to read...
pirate books
i started a thread for pirate books and vampire books about a year ago, but the majority of the suggestions were about vampires. But now i saw pirates 3 for the 3rd time, and therefore am looking for lots of books, fiction and nonfiction, about pirates.
thanks!
I have a suggestion: everyone who posts their books here should write things they found interesting about their books, or maybe just summaries, or recommendations, to make this more interesting, or just their thoughts on their books. here are mine:
1.la dame aux camelias, dumas: i'd read the...
I made a thread for spies and espionage, and now here's one for codebreaking and hacking! i'm interested in history, also stories of specific people, and maybe a few novels. any suggestions?
thanks!
I'll try to bring this thread back from the dead and mention that i just read the first 5(i went on a crazy reading spree) and these books are amazing!! plus i have a thing for alex now.
well, i have to disagree with a book changing your disposition for the better. I experience the characters' feelings very much, so I feel whatever the character feels. Sometimes I get really deptressed and don't know why..then figure out it's because of my book. I also get overemotional when...
This is going to seem a bit silly but I recently read a series of books about a spy working for MI6 and have become really interested in espionage. can you recommend any books to me, fiction and nonfiction, about spies and spying, operations, actual spies, espionage techniques? anything? Thanks!
Well, I'm not like most girls. I prefer to watch scary and action movies, read sci fi and fantasy and action books, and am generally kind of tomboyish, can't stand romance or chick flicks, but do like Jane Austen.
In fact, I just watch a totally awesome action movie based on an...
There's a TON of sequels(and prequels) to pride and prejudice. I recently finished one, called Presumption, and suddenly lost my taste for all. I wouldn't mind these sequels if the authors got the characters right, but they don't.
i stare desperately wondering when i'm going to have time to read all these books. never, it seems..i used to read 12-14 books a month, now it's down to 8-10.
IT is my considered view that no one can invent fictional characters without first having made a lengthy study of people, just as it is impossible for anyone to speak a language that has not been properly mastered.
la dame aux camelias, alexandre dumas.
do tell me when you finish the Three Musketeers! It has quite a lot of sequels, but they're not as good, although for me, it was the sequels that made me love the actual three musketeers.
I've been reading quite a lot of french literature lately, a lot of it really obscure, too..I guess my...
about the Harry Potter films: I stopped following them after the 3rd one. They strayed too far from the books.
I'll be sure to try reading The Dark Tower.
I would suggest the count of monte cristo first, but it's really long, so maybe you should try the three musketeers? both are amazing...
Vesperitilio-I can tell from your avatar that you love fantasy, and I love vampire and fantasy books too, but I also like futuristic stuff. I have yet to read The NOble Dead but I"ve read Twilight/New moon, which were a bit too chick lit for me. I also strongly dislike Ann Rice and Laurell K...
i have nowhere near as many too-150, but that's my own personal library and I'm 15. Plus, we have lots more books in our house in Minsk. But yeah, I use the library, I usually odn't buy books unless they're nonfiction or reference, or I love them very much.
