The Night of the Triffids picks up about 20 years after the conclusion of The Day of the Triffinds. Although it is not on quite the level of the original - it's not destined to be a classic - it is still a MUST read.
Like you, huxley, I loved the original. I pined after I finished it. If...
Hi Gem - Interesting. Hmmm. There is something I'm trying to understand and overcome in life. Almost everything. Seems like I'm always struggling, looking for recognition, trying to advance, yet, never gaining ground.
There is a strong, passionate woman at my side - she's the one that is...
I have a hunch that I'm not alone, among avid readers, in that I often have weird, involved, and very intense dreams. I'm fascinated by my dreams. I believe they are a window into the subconcious. Well ok, maybe I'm not the first to mention that - I think a fellow named Sigmond Freud may have...
Hi, Miss Shelf.
I often find I need to go back and find a passage to check something - and I too wish there were an easy way of locating it. I find that I can ususally find a passage without too much difficulty though, by picturing where on the page the passage was (upper left hand page, mid...
I have an strange idiosyncracy - almost a neurosis perhaps. Sometimes it bothers me, but I can't seem to do anything about it. I was wondering if anybody else suffers from this complex.
Whenever I turn the page of a book, I find I have to check the page numbers to make sure I'm actually...
Wow - thanks for that link, Occlith.
I'm surprised Stewart hasn't shown up telling me that google is a wonderful thing.
It is a wonderful thing - but so is asking a question in a public forum to see what others think.
emptyparkinglot, I was referring mainly to large commercial airliners. I...
I've always wondered why some jets leave smoke or vapor trails when they're flying and some don't.
Anybody know?
And, while we're on the subject, are those trails smoke or vapor, or something else?
Mari-
Not sure if that's some kind of zinger hurled in my direction - but if it is - and even if it isn't - well, thanks to all those that participated in this thread and especially those that encouraged me to hang in here.
Now, the rest of you can resume turning this thread into something I...
I read the revised one. I must admit that I dozed throught part of it - I totally missed the part where
The only way I know that happened is by reading about it later. I may have to go back and re-read it. But for now, I just want to press on. About 30 pages left in book 2.
another Dark Tower thread
I struggled through book 1. Often I thought about ditching it - except I bought the first 5 books at once, and I really wanted to give it a chance.
I looked to you, at TBF for encouragement, and I found it.
Now that I'm about to finish book 2, I can honestly...
Oh, I'm still around - checking this thread from time to time - with some amusement.
Now people, behave yourself, or the stone-faced judge will return, or even worse, an even scarier alter-ego of mine - and yes, that IS me...
I know. I start this thread, thinking it's going to be my last, because hardly anyone (I think) ever reads my post. Then the thread turns into a multi-page monster, and instead of freeing up the time I had been spending on TBF, not only am I spending MORE time on it, now I'm involved in yet...
It's great - most of the time. Sometimes it can get pretty difficult, when we are clashing, but other than that...
It's sure different than what I used to do - which was working as a design supervisor in an aerospace/defence company. That seems like a lifetime ago, now.
Thanks, everyone. It was an amazing trip - even more amazing because it was part business (we bought 14+ carats of natural yellow diamonds) so the company paid! That was sweet.
The company consists of my brother and me, by the way.
There was a Dali. That museum was the ULTIMATE art museum - and I'm not all that big a fan of art museums - except to sit outside them and play the guitar for people. Not that I don't like art - I love it. But normally the crowds and the hassles and the scowling guards and the fees, searches...
