I like Death, Sam Vimes, and Granny Weatherwax.

    Blogging and Privacy

I have no problem with people knowing about my blog, though I don't make a point of telling people about it offline. I don't really post anything too personal, anyway, and I tend not to post even first names of people I refer to (unless they're public figures).

Want to know how many wpm you read? Click here!

735 wpm, 73% comprehension. I agree, it was not the most interesting article. I would've done better if it'd been about baseball. :)

Can you ever catch up or is it a losing battle?

Most definitely a losing battle. I buy books faster than I can read them.

    I just finished reading...

    One Man's Meat by E.B. White -- 5 stars out of 5.

    Pleasure or Analysis

I do both, though if the writing is really bad I find I can't stop myself from analyzing it. Same thing happens with movies.

    Current Non-Fiction reads

I'm reading Daniel Boorstin's "The Americans: The National Experience" (the middle book in his American history trilogy) and Douglas Brode's "The Films of Steven Spielberg".

Anyone ever read two books at once?

I used to read one book at a time, and even now I sometimes pick one up and put it down only when I'm finished. But usually I have three or four going -- something funny, something educational, something movie-related, etc.

    Ice Cream: What's your favorite?

    Mint chocolate chip.

    I just finished reading...

Diana Wynne Jones's "The Tough Guide to Fantasyland", a spoof of travel guides and fantasy fiction conventions.

    Funny book?

Terry Pratchett's pretty good, too -- like Adams, but in fantasy.

    Looking for Fantasy Lovers' Expertise

Forgot to mention Marion Zimmer Bradley in my initial post -- I particularly like her Mists of Avalon, as well as its two prequels (The Forest House, Lady of Avalon).

    Character name needed :-)

There's a cat called Greebo in Pratchett's Discworld series, though if your SO reads up on him, she might not like that name either. :)

    Literature Survey - Help Appreciated!

High school was a looooooong time ago, so I can't remember most of the titles. Here are the ones I do recall: Positive Shakespeare (various) - I love plays, period The Glass Menagerie - ditto Oedipus Rex - ditto Catcher in the Rye - hit a chord, alienated teenager that I was (though...

    What sports are you into?

I love watching baseball, and don't mind watching the occasional (American) football game. As for doing things, I like walking, snowshoeing, the occasional kayak or hike, and Wiffleball. :D

David Sedaris: Me Talk Pretty One Day

I got lots of looks when I'd laugh out loud on the subway, and I didn't care ... that's how damn funny Sedaris is.

How did you get your love of books?

It's in my genes, like black hair and brown eyes. ;) Seriously, I've been reading as long as I can remember too. Library trips were one of the best fun parts of childhood.

What's the WORST book you ever read?

The Hiram Key by Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas. If writing is like architecture, I wouldn't trust these guys to build a doghouse.

How do you arrange your bookshelves?

I usually try to group things by author and/or subject. If my books wouldn't keep multiplying and overrunning all the shelf space, the system would work perfectly. :D

Do you buy, borrow or take out from the library?

I tend to buy mine, though when I was taking classes I used the university library quite a bit. I should go to the library more often ... maybe after I've gotten through the backlog of all the stuff I bought and/or received as presents (which at my current rate will be in about twenty years).
