    Looking for Fantasy Lovers' Expertise

For humorous fantasy, you can't go wrong with Terry Pratchett. The more Tolkien/fantasy stuff you've read, the funnier he is.

    What animal are you?

I'm either a bat or a snake.

    What country are you?

You're Israel! Though a victim in the past, you've learned very little from this and have encouraged a cycle of violence in your life and the life of many you know. *You're a little paranoid and somewhat schizophrenic, causing you to promote both hatred and hope in cycling intervals. *Some of...

    Super Bowl

Whew, that was close. Kudos to the Eagles for a well-fought game.

    How often do you read?

There's nothing wrong with being a bookworm. If there were, everyone in this forum would be in trouble! :) I'm another person who reads anytime she can, online and off -- it probably comes out to four/five hours a day during the week. Not sure about weekends, it depends on how much social...

    Hamlet :-\

I found a page with a number of Hamlet-related links: http://www.tk421.net/hamlet/hamlet.html The Mel Gibson version was entertaining, Ethan Hawke's was intense but often modern for the sake of being modern, and Kenneth Branagh's take is to be avoided at all costs.

    Does anyone know this book?

Yep, it's "Doomsday Book", and it's utterly fascinating, both in its depictions of the past and the "present" (the future, to us).

    Well noone mentions it but,,,

That would've been really interesting -- even a darker tone than what we have now.

I used to read just one book at a time, but now I do two or three. I'm often reading at least one weekly magazine, too.

On occasion, but it's very very hard.

Please Help Me Choose Some Periodicals

The New Yorker might be good for you too -- a mix of current events and culture, a few poems, and at least one fiction piece per issue.

Just finished The Conversations (interviews with film editor Walter Murch).

    Currently Reading

I'm currently reading "The Conversations" (a number of interviews with Walter Murch, longtime picture/sound editor in film) and "Bard", a fiction book about how the origins of the Irish. Last night I finished "Faithful", Steven King's and Stewart O'Nan's book about the Boston Red Sox's 2004 season.

    Harry Potter Comic

I haven't felt that way with the series either. #5, which I have yet to finish, actually seems very slow-paced to me -- there were quite a few pages to get through before Harry even makes it to Hogwarts.

    Blogging

Yep, I have a blog. Yep, it's mostly crap, but it's an outlet, and I do try not to post just for the sake of posting.

    No more heros: writers

Well, I definitely disagree with them about Shakespeare and DeLillo, but I can't speak to the rest. It'd be interesting to find out which writers they thought were underrated (or rated just right). Taste is such a personal thing, after all.

    Michael Chabon: The Final Solution

Heck, yeah! :) Adding yet another title to my already-long queue.
