So what? LOTR stole from mythology, and I can't even begin to list all the comparisons or "stolen ideas" in WoT. Big deal. The story is what matters.

I love otherworld. I would love to read it again. My only problem with Tad Williams writing is that his Shadowmarch series seems to follow along the same vein as his original Sorrow, whatever, and Thorn series.. (can't remember their names).
But his Otherland books were awesome. The whole...
I'm not gonna argue if you don't like Anne Rice, but set back in time? All of those books are fairly modern, 80's at the earliest. They have a lot of flashback sequences explaining the histories and whatnot, but the main story is very modern. Lestat becomes a rock star, goes on a cruise in...
The gunslinger's way hard to get through. Took me two tries. The rest of the series gets better. This is from a guy who isn't really a King fan, either.

After I re-read them, I didn't care much about all the stuff about Eragon's brother, and it's stupid that he still hasn't finished this series. The movie sucked as well. Why is LotR and Harry Potter the only fantasy books that anyone is willing to put any real effort into making into a GOOD...
I believe the correct order for the Dragonlance series of books is the Heroes series, then the Legends series, then Soul Forge, then Second Generations, then Dragons of the Summer Flame, then the War of Souls series, then Amber and Blood trilogy, and finally they have a second "Heroes" series in...
I'm not sure I understand. If you don't normally like short stories and you haven't bought any of his books since Dark Tower, why would you be interested in this one?
I'm not a fan of short story collections either, unless its relevant to a series, like some of the "Legends" short stories...
<shrug> for the most part that one simply establishes a background for Roland. Seems unnecessary at the time, but later on there are a lot of instances that become significant.
I liked the Dark Tower, but the more I read of King's other books, the more I'm convinced they're all basically the...
Stephen King's site really is the best for giving the connections, although some would consider it to be spoilers:
The Dark Tower - Official Web Site

I saw the links, I mentioned them above, but they're not significant enough for me to care. I also realize that King at some point considers there to be a connection, but it's entirely possible that he came to that consideration AFTER all the fans brought it up. I mean we're talking about some...
Yeah, that's pretty much the same list as Wikipedia, however, I just read From a Buick 8 about a week ago, and let me tell you, there are no connections to the Dark Tower that aren't a complete reach.
But all of that could just be speculation by some overzealous fans. I read the book without...
If you can't be bothered to read the book, what gives you the idea that you are able to tell the differences based simply on what you were told? I'll say it one more time: The story itself even points out the similarities between the two.
I don't really think I want to debate anything more...
No, don't you know what RAFO means? Read And Find Out. If you just want the Cliff Notes version I'm sure there's some web site out there to answer your questions. I'm not going to give them to you. If you want to ask me a general question like how did I like it or something, that's one...
I guess that's sortof what I was trying to say. The writing is good, but the plots are repetitive to a fault. The characters become repetitive after a while as well. There are subtle differences but after a while, you sortof see that he's just taking bits of each character and shifting them...
Just finished the series.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
Is it worth reading his other books just to find Dark Tower references? I read Eyes of the Dragon first, so when he first started talking about , it got me excited. Then there was the references to Salem's Lot and It that really had me wanting...
RAFO.
The Mallorean is almost the exact same plotline as the Belgariad. They even say so in the book. Eddings has very little creativity as an author and all of his books follow a very strict outline that he very rarely deviates from. He even wrote this himself in the Riven Codex.
The...
Not to be a complete jerk, but did nobody notice this thread hasn't been touched since 2006 until I bumped it to specifically ask a question? If you guys don't know, you could at least say so.
It's frustrating to ask a question about Excel and then have a few people come back and talk about...
Dredged this old thread to ask.... Those of you putting your books on excel spreadsheets... Is there a way to enter formatting to automatically alphabetize by a certain column?
I know the basics with Excel, but I'm not familiar with all the formatting options.
