When am I *ever* getting to those?

I would be better suited to answer the question "Which Books of yours have you actually read?"! It would be quicker. My TBR list would pretty much comprise my entire library!! LoL...shameful, I agree. I have made small dents here and there, reading The Golden Compass by Pullman, only just 2...

    Must read classics

If you're thinking of giving Steinbeck a try, you might like The Red Pony, as its short and doesn't have as much of the awkward slang in it. And yes...I did forget to mention Shakespeare...the Master, as I think of him. He is oft quoted and imitated...but never out-bested!

    What's your favourite period?

Hiya! Been awhile. I like the Victorian Age best, perhaps, though I am fond of what I like to think of as the "Agatha Christie" period: 1920's-1940's. But also the Medieval Period and the Ancient world.

    Super Heros or Just Heros?

Okay, I've just got to get some things said before I pop!! LOL! Firstly, a superhero, by my own thinking, could be defined as anyone who either has superpowers, or has defeated someone with superpowers. Hence, Batman, Iron-Man, or the Punisher would all qualify. Now, as to this...

Yea I'd like to start reading some comics!!!

Lost in the Comic-Jungle Too! Yeah, I really understand what you mean Fenster, about going into a comic-store and feeling "dazed and confused"!! I was just in a comic store the other day and I thought I'd lost my mind! See, I used to be an avid comic collecter back in the day....my...

    Characters you identify with

My friends often write me letters (yes, people still do that!!) addressing me as Mr. Hackett of The Shire, as I am so fond of Bilbo and Frodo. My Girlfriend jokingly accuses me of being in love with Hermione (no way!) since I'm so like her!! LOL. I am rather studious, and I do love knowing all...

    Must read classics

Firstly, let me say that I apologize for not posting in such a long while! My monitor is busted, and I've had to come to the Library (how nice!) to get online. Now, let me say that I'm rather shocked that only one person so far has mentioned Homer's works!! I would think these nigh on...

Harry Potter Seventh Book Pre-Sales Speculations and Discussions

I think Harry is going to first learn something of importance from the Dursleys, as he'll no longer need to stay there and will probably have a big row with Aunt Petunia. This may lead him to Godric's Hollow, as she may relate some information to him about things she might have seen or...

Harry dies not spoiler just speculation

oh, I wasn't aware of that...this is a day for mourning!! I'm going to my room now!

Harry dies not spoiler just speculation

Actually, I was under the impression that it would be out in 2 years. I know that she's already begun parts of it, but she's taking some time off to raise her kids and be a wife for a bit...but she does sneak in a tincture of writing at times too! The Mugglenet/Leaky-Cauldron joint interview is...

Adventure books (fantasy or not) in the vein of The Odyssey?

The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen, by Lloyd Alexander is one of the best stories of this type that I've ever read! Its geared toward young people, but its full of amazing adult-sized wisdom!! It's (obviously) about Prince Jen, and his quest to find a legendary King who can help save his...

    The Fantasy Forum..........

I'm wondering why no one here has mentioned the Dragonlance saga from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman? I would have thought that these were absolute "must reads" for fantasy fans?! I would also like to ask you all, what kinds of stories do these authors you've mentioned tell? I'm not familiar...

Mr. Potter's contribution to fantasy literature

I guess I would be in disagreement with the majority of you, for I think the Harry Potter series has indeed made a great impact upon fantasy literature. One evidence of this is the profusion of "imitations" or similar stories that have erupted as a result of the series' success. Imitation is the...

    Desert Island books

I think my ten would be: 1. The Bible 2. The Iliad 3. The Odyssey--these 2 because they're such foundations of literature. 4. The Complete Short Stories of Hercule Poirot-by Agatha Christie 5. Institutes of the Christian Religion-by John Calvin, great exposition of Christianity. 6. The...

Desert island- and then there was one!

This is definitely an interesting twist! For me I'd say: Book: The Bible Film: Pirates of the Caribbean (at least, at the moment) Painting: Anything from Bob Ross (that guy with the 'fro!), Rembrant, or Jose de Leal. Music: The Phantom of the Opera (ABSOLUTELY MUST have Sarah...

    Desert Island books

This is perhaps one of my favorite questions to ponder...though its usually put to me with a 3 book limit. My list would be fairly similar to Celeste's. 1. The Bible-for my Spiritual Strength and Sustenance 2. Webster's Dictionary (one with Foreign Words and Phrases). 3. Robinson Crusoe-I...

What do you think of classics "for children"?

I am of two minds about this whole idea: firstly, I am delighted that any child would be interested in a Victorian Age book, however condensed it might be! To step back into the past and learn something--even if its a small step--is to protect against the folly of complacency. I, myself, once...
