    Potter Fans watch this

I just wanted to say that these clips are the funniest thing I've ever seen!!! I loved them!! Thanx for the links!!! Plus, Halo, I've got dial-up too, and they don't require "downloading", just a small bit of regular loading time, its not like in media player or real player or anything like...

So what is it about Harry Potter that you like?

I love the Harry Potter books mostly because they bring me magically back to my childhood days of yore. I love J.K. Rowling's long dallying into the everyday school happenings, since these excursions allow me to reminisce over the golden days of my youth. I love, simply LOVE, to read of the...

Harry dies not spoiler just speculation

I read in an interview (I'll try to find it again soon) where J.K. Rowling mentioned her religious beliefs, to the effect that she said something like (para-phrasing) " People always ask me if I'm a Christian, but no one seems to ever go any deeper than that...I suppose this is good for me...

Voting: December 2005 Book of the Month

I voted for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...mainly because its the only book I own that's listed, and The Brothers Karamazov seemed too long (I've got TONS on my TBR list as it is!).

    classic coming of age

If you liked that movie with Natalie Portman that you mentioned, then you may like the movie Where the Heart Is, or the book its based on by Billie Letts. (I'll say this much, I'm a guy and this movie had me in tears to the point I missed my dinner to keep watchin it!)

    Book Suggestions?

I have recently begun the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix. They seemed to me a blend of Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland...with a dash of Narnia thrown in for good measure! I think you'd enjoy them! Also, my lovely Girlfriend has recommended to me Eragon and Eldest, by...

How often do you talk about books?

(just wanted to say to CDA that I've also got The Oxford Book of English Verse, and I've been perusing it lately too!! LOL)

How often do you talk about books?

I talk about books incessantly with my Girlfriend, as we both try to read many of the same things. She read the Harry Potter books at my suggestion, and I'm reading Eragon due to hers. In my family, I can only really talk to my Mom and Dad about books, but they both tend to only read Christian...

Books that get a reaction(i.e.-People confronting you about it)

;) (Had my Webster while I wrote my above!!):p

    If you......

If I could take any book, I would definitely take my Inductive Study Bible...I'd need something to calm my fears at night! But, if I could only take fiction...(and I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it) I would doubtless take Robinson Crusoe...I mean, what more comforting book than one that...

Books that get a reaction(i.e.-People confronting you about it)

I wondered what that name meant! (and how to pronounce it!) huh! Guess you learn something new everyday!!

Most influential book you ever read?

I would have to say that the books which have most influenced and produced a lasting effect in my life, would be the following: 1. The Bible--absolutely life changing for me. Gives me faith, hope and Love. 2. The Tell-Tale Heart and Other Stories, by E.A. Poe.--This book made me realise my...

Books that get a reaction(i.e.-People confronting you about it)

...did I mention that I've also gotten comments from reading the Dictionary in public? I don't mean "consulting" one, but just reading it like I'd read a novel. Apparently only weird people are interested in improving their vocabulary. Please pardon my idiosyncrasy.

Alice Sebold: The Lovely Bones *spoilers*

I read this book a couple years ago and I was deeply moved by it! I cried lots while reading it, partly because of the grief of the family, but also because it helped me to better empathize with my friends' family, who had recently lost a son to suicide. I saw how people deal with a local death...

Books that get a reaction(i.e.-People confronting you about it)

I have read a few books in my time that have turned a head or two! Some I'm not proud of and regret reading. Others I now own. The books in my list would be: Nigger, by Dick Gregory (I'm black, so you can pick up your jaw now!!:D ) Most people wondered why I read a "racist" book...racist...

Ever broken up with someone over books?

I've not suffered this problem myself either, but I think I do see your logic...slightly. If a person doesn't read, then, (generally speaking now) they probably don't have a great interest in the Great things of the world. My brother, for example, can't seem to imagine wanting to know about...

    Your thoughts on books.

I do not wish to turn this into a philosophy discussion, but my conscience bids me to clarify my last statement lest any misunderstanding ensue. I pray you all forgive me if I seem too philosophical at this point, as it is in no way my intention to "preach". I merely wanted to say that, while...

    boys books

Has anyone read G.A. Henty? He's supposed to be a great "boys" author, and I've seen his list of books...if I'd heard of him when I was a lad, I'd have devoured 'em!! Also, just finished the first in the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix (Mister Monday). Read it in a day (ironically on...

    Who is the hardest read?

yeah...e.e. cummings makes me wonder why we even use intelligible speech in the first place!

    Your thoughts on books.

Since the terms "good" and "evil" are both adjectives used to describe other things, these terms are intrinsically SUBJECTIVE. It is therefore rather superfluous to say that books are not necessarily in and of themselves evil...hardly anything is if you realize that good and evil are subjective...
