I found the Silmarillion an easy read, though whenever I say this, people think I'm nuts. (Most likely true. :p) I love The Silmarillion. It is a beautiful book! However, a good companion that I highly recommend to this book is 'The Lays of Beleriand', book 3 in 'The History of Middle-earth'...

I really don't know if Frodo dies in Valinor. I like to believe that he doesn't, and that he and Sam were reunited. I'm a sucker for happy endings...but hey I can think of it that way because Tolkien never really explained it. I just like to believe that he doesn't die.
