I think it all comes back to the scar. Rowling has said that 'scar' is the last word of the book. We've never had it explained as to why the scar is there and why it hurts. Could there be something *inside* the scar (a little bit 'Alien' if you ask me)? Or what else can its significance be?
Oops! I read the thread title wrong, I thought it was "what book do you love but everyone else hates"!! So, my post above is completely off base.
I just couldn't get into the English Patient at all. It really did nothing for me, and I *really* tried! I haven't seen the movie because I do so...
Bleh. I know. It's a shame that these shows end in such commercialised crap when they could really be exposing new talent and giving inovative "musicians" a push. I think this one does this to a certain extent, and I really hope that someone takes a hint and produces something that concentrates...
I Googled it and found it, but I think that's cheating for this fun thread. It wasn't by "a popular rock band", though, so I wonder if WoodenCoyote has heard a cover version of the original?
It's chilly out (-3 C), but a fresh dusting of snow made the footpaths less slippery this morning. Humidity is at 100%, so this afternoon's precipitation could go either way. If it rains it'll be a dangerous walk home. :(
Yeah, it sounded pretty daft when I first heard about it, and I seriously questioned the credibility of the band. But having seen the show I realised that these were quality musicians, and it was more than just a glorified kareoki competition. When you think about it, they would have been...
David Eddings :). Many fantasy-genre buffs think he's too formulaic, but I just love his books!! I always recommend them to people just starting out in fantasy. I also really enjoy Raymond E. Feist and Terry Goodkind, despite similar reservations among fantasy purists.
I hope so. It's not that I enjoyed Dumbledore's death, but I always admire an author with the courage to do that, and I'd feel a little cheated if it was just a tool to suck the reader in.
I can't see Rowling endorsing kids with as much potential as Harry dropping out of school. Fred and George were clearly cut out for a trade, so this was appropriate, but I just can't see her letting Harry fall short of the best education. I also don't see him being made the DADA teacher -...
Firstly let me state that I love Second Hand stores - there is so much character to them, and I actually prefer pre-owned books. They have their spines already cracked so that I don't feel guilty for doing it. I also love the feeling of finding a bargain. My TBR is so long that I'm bound to find...
I'm with ions. It solves the searching problem and means that discussions can stay where they were originally. Let's face it - you have to do a search to find a specific book-thread anyway, so having a thread on 'Life of Pi' 5 pages back in the Fiction section or in the BOTM thread still means...
I can't help but notice only responses from the UK thus far (not sure where jaybe is from, though).
I can certainly order them from Amazon, but I am surprised that I would have to. She has written over 4000 books and my earliest reading was defined by her works (for years I was confused by...
I think this is a good idea. If after a couple of months people are still not satisfied then there is the possibility that these threads can be opened back up. I think Moto has a good theory, but it needs testing and this is the only way to do it. Clearly the majority of forum members who this...
I didn't think the animosity between Snape and James was ever really explained fully, nor the reason why Lily and James ended up together. Lily treated James with disdane in the vision in the pensieve, and had sympathy for Snape.
There's definately more to the relationship between Snape and...
Oh yes! I forgot about him!! Are any of his books set in Canada?
I also really liked Kathy Reich's 'Death du Jour', alternatively titled by a friend, 'Why not to visit Canada in January'.
Yeah, I don't know. Apparently when one reads sci-fi one is thus socially inept.
Incidently I looked it up on Dictionary.com (I think that makes me more of a geek...). Does this make Ozzy a geek?
Unless he's some kind of vampire where daylight does not harm him I do not see this being the case. He's attended Quidditch games (recall when Harry was knocked off his broomstick and they thought it was Snape) and was outdoors in his youth (recall the vision in the pensieve where he was hung...
