Currently Reading/I Just Finished Reading - WHY???

Hey Ice, would people be interested in renaming 'Recently Purchased' to 'Recent Additions to my TBR'? This way people can talk about all the books they've just discovered without going into threads with possible spoilers.

    Out of curiosity...

Apparently this scam has been going on for years, even before the wide usage of email. Years ago this same scam was done with snail-mail letters in the mail. I imagine it must have been far more successful. Can you imagine getting a personalised letter??! Some of these scams are really elaborate...

    Hello!

Welcome Melin! I'm also a Bill Bryson fan - what's your favourite?

    Books and CD prices

Thanks for the post!! I had a look at the paper, and while I'm no economist, it did seem to be built on some fairly broad assumptions. For example their empirical model depended on: I haven't ripped a CD in years, but from memory there are different qualities and thus file sizes that one can...

Oh yeah! I kicked your arse so easily I clean forgot about that. Hettar says hi, by the way. Edit: I'm such an arrogant penguin today. I don't know what's gotten into me.

Man, you lost me on that reference... But either way, as SFG said, you've never seen a penguin lay the smack down quite like I can where monkeys are concerned... Hey, that reminds me, where's Leckert these days??

Gary Glitter in trouble in Vietnam

No real comment on the issue. He's yet to defend himself on the charges so I don't think it's fair to comment. She may well have misled him into thinking she was older, in which case it's a completely different issue. I just wanted to say that Miss Shelf's thread heading made me guffaw out...

It's the End of the World As We Know It

They're both available at Amazon.ca and Amazon.co.uk, so I just assumed they were internationally published.

It's the End of the World As We Know It

Both these are written for young-adults, but have appealed to adults alike. John Marsden's Tomorrow, When the War Began (there are adult releases and young adult releases - the only difference is the cover): Tomorrow, When the War Began. And then there's Isobelle Carmody's Obernewtyn...

Did you ever throw a book across the room?

I think you're confusing it with Eco, MC. *Waits with glee to see Stewart's response* :D

It's the End of the World As We Know It

There's a few suggestions in this thread: Boom!

    Books and CD prices

You are right, it is a lot easier to track now. But all the statistics (granted, they have been put out by record companies) indicate that music sales have decreased since CD burning capabilities became mainstream. If I get time later on I'll go digging in Google for an article or two about it...

    Madagascar

They are being transported to another zoo, aren't they? I'm looking forward to watching this film too :).

    Books and CD prices

But taping off the radio is different - it wasn't good quality like copying today's CDs. Plus, you usually had the ads or the announcer cut off the start or end of the song. I used to video tape the video shows off the television and then record them onto tapes afterwards. Again, crappy quality...

    Florida idea for Drunk Drivers....

In my state of Victoria in Australia we have to display Learner plates (A 20cm square yellow and black 'L') when we have our learner permit (minimum age is 16), and then P-plates (red and white) when we get our probotionary licence (minimum age is 18 and this will last 3 years). These plates are...

    How to Raise Readers

What about when they get older, around 12 - 16. Do you continue to encourage it then if they start to lose interest? If so, how?
