    Nature Fiction?

Just in case you're still after anything... Elyne Mitchell wrote some children's books about wild brumbies in the Australian outback, and nature features quite extensively in these books. Try 'The Silver Brumby'.

George R. R. Martin: A Song Of Ice And Fire

Mag? *amused* No one has shortened my username to that before...

    New Moderator

I don't know anyone who would want to be a moderator anyway! It would have to be someone who hadn't had any prior experience of it, since, IMO, it is the most thankless task created. People seem to think that, because they are sitting anonymously behind a screen and never likely to meet the...

George R. R. Martin: A Song Of Ice And Fire

Awww, I love that about ongoing fantasy series - the fact that it allows you to re-read without people thinking you're a bit mad :) I have five ongoing series that I will re-read as each come out: George RR Martin Robert Jordan Kelley Armstrong (Women of the Otherworld) Laurell K...

    Stupidest Romance Plot Ever

I've recently read that book. For all those non-romance lovers who want to steer clear, it's called Paradise House by Erica James. However, for all those who enjoy reading romance, it is actually a sharp plot (for a romance novel), with intriguing and engaging central characters. It is, of...

    Love

If he doesn't love you, and you love him, you will mourn him as with a death. It is a wrench. There is denial, anger, and grief. Eventually the pain softens into something that you can deal with on a day to day basis - no longer is that person the first person you think of as you wake and as you...

Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

About one hundred pages in right now, and loving it. The language is both exquisite and atmospheric; the faerie people are otherworldly and dark. Really impressed so far - hope it keeps going thus for the next 700 pages!

    Feeling very bored and uninspired...

If you feel lacking in friends, then do something creative in a club. Join a real live book group; book on a creative writing course; try salsa or ballroom dancing. Get yourself off the Net, out of the house, and meet new people. They'll soon fill the gap left by the absence of your friends -...

    shannara series by terry brooks????

I read the Sword of Shannara as one of my first forays into fantasy, and would have loved it - barring the fact I'd recently read the Lord of the Rings, which is shamelessly plagiarises all the way through. Despite that, it is a fairly good book to read, although the Elfstones of Shannara is by...

    Reading in October

I have Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, which I have bumped to the head of my reading list. I'll also be sweeping through the Laurell K Hamilton Anita Blake series, in time for the release of her latest (8th Oct in the UK). If there is any more of October left with all of that, I'll start...

    E.B. White: Charlotte's Web

Indeed I remember this book - and the cartoon they made of it too. I loved it as a kid and have been tempted on occasion to buy it again. It certainly ranked up there as one of my faves - I thought Charlotte was a wonderful character.

    shannara series by terry brooks????

In terms of chronological happenings in the book, The First King is a prequel to the events that happen in the Sword of Shannara.

Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

Just brought this book at the weekend, and it's an extremely handsome cover :) . I got the black version, with black pages and white ribbon bookmark. I have to say it's a long time that I've been this excited about starting a new book.

George R. R. Martin: A Song Of Ice And Fire

His books are wonderful! I adore this series and read it over and over, since he is taking a little while to bring out number 4. Check out his website ( www.georgerrmartin.com ) where he keeps an update as to his progress on the 4th book. There hasn't been a change in the update lately, which...

How much books do you read per year?

At least one a week (commuting gives me loads of time to read), so at least 52 a year...

    Favorite book

I think the book that most gripped me this summer was 'The Pursuit of Happiness' by Douglas Kennedy.

    Favourite Standalone Fantasy

The Princess Bride is a wonderful fantasy book, as is the Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle (I think?)

    Current fantasy reads

Oberon, I concur with your recommendation for Sharon Shinn's Samaria novels - I think they're all excellent. I just have the blues because she never really took off in the UK and so I can't get a copy of her most recent book in that series (Angel-Seeker). When I've got some spare cash, I'll...

    Current fantasy reads

I've been reading Kelley Armstrong's four 'Women of the Otherworld' books - these are a fantasy/horror hybrid and exceptionally good. I love the snappy dialogue, the sex and the interaction between the characters - which happen to be well-fleshed out and realistic with proper motivations for...
