I'm currently engaged to be married, so I'm hopeful that it's all for something!
I said yes to my future husband because I want to take his name in a declaration of how much I love him. I want to have the security and comfort of being with someone for the rest of my life, and I believe that...
Okay, finally one I *think* I can help with!
I believe you're looking for a trilogy of books by an Australian author called Sara Douglass.
The first is Battleaxe, then Enchanter and then Starman.

Found it! Turtle Moon. I really enjoyed this slightly quirky, deep tale. Hopefully it's the sort of thing you're looking for.
Because our opinions on the idea were sought after?
And because we are Book Forum dwellers, which includes the General Chat area?
I don't mind a General Chat area - sometimes it's nice to not discuss books, especially if you're going through a reading drought. I am...
Hmmm, I join in with the clamour for Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell - loved it and would really enjoy discussing it!
Also, failing that one, I'll second the Time Travellers' Wife, since it's in my to-read pile and might get me to crack on with it...
Lastly, I'd like to nominate Legend by...
I like discussions as much as the next person, but having a debate about news items will often lead to political perspectives, or nationalistic views, which I believe is discouraged here.
Different perspectives then. I was in uni by the time I read them, and far from innocent. Themes of incest had been touched on before in books that I'd tried, so it wasn't as sit-up-and-stare surprising as it would have been to a 12 year old girl.
Anyway, we've digressed into our differing...
I feel like I've been waiting an eternity for several fantasy series to finish up!! Let us count them together....
A Song of Ice and Fire
Deverry
The Wheel of Time
Terry Goodkind's wizard series
For those that bothered, Steven Erikson's lengthy saga
I could go on!! The...
I was not shocked by these books. I read them about five years ago for the first time.
When I say I found the love amazing, I meant in a genuine, heartbreaking way, not for the shock factor.
I agree that the themes of the book are quite dark, but if you read that book with the following three, there is romance and love. Sure, incest is not a thing that is romantic, but the love between the brother and sister is amazing as you follow it through both of their lives.
Admittedly, not...
Hmmm, that's strange. I read the first book in the Sleeping Beauty trilogy and found it laughably unerotic! Seems I'm the exception in this case.
And on the subject of deeply unerotic works (to be contrary) I would steer clear of the sexual scenes in Birdsong by Sebastian Faulk and also any...
I read the first two books, and didn't like them well enough to buy and read the third one. This to me is not a good selling point, since the whole purpose of reading a trilogy is being desperate to get to the final book to find out what happens!
I thought the books were far too mushy, and...
I'm currently reading them for the very first time, myself. I struggled to get into the first - the writing is pretty dense and the main character deserves to be shook until he bucks his ideas up! I'm quite disappointed so far, but hoping it'll pick up. I do like the Sithi (Elves by any other...
I would agree with you with David Eddings, for sure. You always know it'll be a light, but entertaining read. (And it's Sparhawk, BTW ;) )
Terry Goodkind probably fits into the same category, but takes his books far far too seriously! He seems to think they're a real magnus opus...
Hmmm...
