Well, it's a little elementary...
And I suppose this doesn't count, but when I read Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted, I didn't realize that the cover was glow-in-the dark (who decided that?!), and it was sitting out near my table lamp. I went to bed, and I saw this glowing. Now that was terrifying.
Sadly enough, the only book that succeeded in terrifying me was a young adult book that I read when I was far too old for it - Jade Green. Something about bloody hands running around is too much for me.
Even if you're done with the assignment, I still would recommend the book. It's a good book, and I find I have different reactions to it each time I read it.
I'm really bad with starting books and not finishing them. To name a few: Lolita, The Art of War, War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment...you know, the books everyone "says they're meaning to read".
I get really paranoid about folded pages in books, so that's out for a bookmark. I read a lot in the kitchen or living room, so when I'm out the door I grab a napkin to use - but mostly I just try to remember the general area of where I read last.
First I go to Half Price Books. If they don't have it, I may go either to Barnes and Noble or online to Alibris.com. You can't really go wrong with Alibris - I get some really cheap books there. (But I still bow down to Half Price Books!)
I find Sylvia Plath amazing. Her poem "Daddy" is amazing - anything in her collection of poems called Ariel is great.
If you're doing forensics, and you can be passionate and raw in reading poetry, Sylvia Plath is a good choice. Good luck with forensics!
I read this for an English project. I don't know if it was the stress of trying to finish this enormous book in the time frame, or the fact that it was "historical fiction", or about vampires (a subject I tend to steer away from), but I did not enjoy this book.
Alright, when I started it I...
I find myself torn on my ideas of the book. While the beginning was superb and haunting, I found that the book simply dragged on. I'm not one to enjoy fluffy, happy books, but this book was so depressing and awful that I couldn't read it that often or I'd feel horrible the rest of the day (my...
We had to read this book for my English class - however, I think there is a different response I receive from reading a book for a class and for my own personal interest...I'll probably end up reading it again.
I did enjoy it, but there was something lacking behind it. I suppose I didn't...
Completely agree. Haunted was not Chuck Palahniuk's best. The poems I did not like at all, but I did find the stories very entertaining (some being a little too much for my taste). The only reason I'd read it again would be because of the short stories.
However, any other Chuck Palahniuk book...
In my experience, it depends completely on the "wonderful" book. Sometimes a book is wonderful where I read it very slow, to take it all in and appreciate it, and other times it's an "I have to finish you" kind of thing, where it's good, but I want to get to the end because of said goodness. I...
