    Being SCARED by a book

Well, it's a little elementary... And I suppose this doesn't count, but when I read Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted, I didn't realize that the cover was glow-in-the dark (who decided that?!), and it was sitting out near my table lamp. I went to bed, and I saw this glowing. Now that was terrifying.

    Being SCARED by a book

Sadly enough, the only book that succeeded in terrifying me was a young adult book that I read when I was far too old for it - Jade Green. Something about bloody hands running around is too much for me.

J.D. Salinger: The Catcher In The Rye

Even if you're done with the assignment, I still would recommend the book. It's a good book, and I find I have different reactions to it each time I read it.

    Books you didn't finish

I'm really bad with starting books and not finishing them. To name a few: Lolita, The Art of War, War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment...you know, the books everyone "says they're meaning to read".

What do you use as a bookmark?

I get really paranoid about folded pages in books, so that's out for a bookmark. I read a lot in the kitchen or living room, so when I'm out the door I grab a napkin to use - but mostly I just try to remember the general area of where I read last.

    help choosing a book

Farewell to Arms is always a good choice. The Great Gatsby is a quick and easy read, but not as good as something by Hemingway.

    Late Night Reading

I am a horrible sleeper, so I've stayed up until 9 in the morning finishing books.

    Favorite Female Writers

Margaret Atwood is the first that comes to mind. Other than that, I like Jane Austen, Charlotte or Emily Bronte, and Ayn Rand.

    Good place to buy books?

First I go to Half Price Books. If they don't have it, I may go either to Barnes and Noble or online to Alibris.com. You can't really go wrong with Alibris - I get some really cheap books there. (But I still bow down to Half Price Books!)

The Most overrated fiction book ever?

The Da Vinci Code, hands down. Absolute let down.

    recommend a poem!!

I find Sylvia Plath amazing. Her poem "Daddy" is amazing - anything in her collection of poems called Ariel is great. If you're doing forensics, and you can be passionate and raw in reading poetry, Sylvia Plath is a good choice. Good luck with forensics!

    Elizabeth Kostova: The Historian

I read this for an English project. I don't know if it was the stress of trying to finish this enormous book in the time frame, or the fact that it was "historical fiction", or about vampires (a subject I tend to steer away from), but I did not enjoy this book. Alright, when I started it I...

Alice Sebold: The Lovely Bones *spoilers*

I find myself torn on my ideas of the book. While the beginning was superb and haunting, I found that the book simply dragged on. I'm not one to enjoy fluffy, happy books, but this book was so depressing and awful that I couldn't read it that often or I'd feel horrible the rest of the day (my...

    F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Great Gatsby

We had to read this book for my English class - however, I think there is a different response I receive from reading a book for a class and for my own personal interest...I'll probably end up reading it again. I did enjoy it, but there was something lacking behind it. I suppose I didn't...

    Chuck Palahniuk

Completely agree. Haunted was not Chuck Palahniuk's best. The poems I did not like at all, but I did find the stories very entertaining (some being a little too much for my taste). The only reason I'd read it again would be because of the short stories. However, any other Chuck Palahniuk book...

    Wonderful, wonderful books

In my experience, it depends completely on the "wonderful" book. Sometimes a book is wonderful where I read it very slow, to take it all in and appreciate it, and other times it's an "I have to finish you" kind of thing, where it's good, but I want to get to the end because of said goodness. I...

What is/are your most valuable book(s)?

Well, I've just got two books autographed by Chuck Palahniuk. Nothing else of much interest, though.

    Stolen

It's extremely disturbing, but well put together, I think. The rhythm is great, and your poem is very...interesting, to say the least.
