I can't believe so many of you put down Children of Men. I'd put that on my list of worst films ever, lower even than Titanic.
Pan's Labyrinth was better than The Queen. Night at the Museum, good light hearted, feel-good fun. But that's NOT a list.
Just musing
There is such a thing - so don't start denying it. I'm snobby and avoid anything described as this as much as I do stamp collectors and train spotters.
I'll start you off with 'Valley of the Dolls' by Jacqueline Susann. It's described as a cult classic, not chic lit, but that's what it is. No...
Why don't you read them yourself? Don't read them looking for trouble, just sit down and read them for pleasure. I love them - and I'm too old to have a teenage daughter.:)
Your own judgment must be the best.

Seriously, though, I think my purpose in life is to study. Otherwise, why would I be the only person on earth who enjoys most of her classes and spends her spare time learning more about whatever she can?
I'm taking the academic path...
Whatever your choice - it's...
I thought Sue Townsend deserved a thread of her own. So here you are:D
She's been very successful, but not been given the serious praise she deserves. Her books are clever as well as original and very funny.
My opinion is that 'Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction' is her best...
Hi, I'm only replying because the following was written to me by  ? Huh, they didn't even sign their name!
Hello jaybe it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a...
That's a very pretentious statement!:(
I don't think you'd 'get' Bukowski with this attitude.
However, I recommend 'Betting on the Muse.' It's nice and thick, so you'll like that.;) :D
it's a mixture of poems and short stories. Check out the poem which begins 'there are no strong...
I notice neither of you got back about this book.
Did you finish it?
I did. It's dreadful.
There were a few amusing lines in the first few chapters. Then it got more and more boring.
What a waste of time and 50p - I got it from a boot sale.
Are you all having treatment? Or do you just have counseling on how to live with obsessions?
New or old, my books get covered in coffee, jam, butter, spines cracked, not pages bent over though. That's bad.:)
I've just read 'Beatniks.'
Why I continued to read after struggling with the shallow characters, stilted writing and childish story, Lord only knows!
I did laugh, almost out loud a few times. I decided Toby Litt was writing deliberately badly in a clever, satirical sort of way.
When I...
I enjoyed reading that. You set a great scene. I'm not sure about the lack of punctuation, I like it - except I had to re-read well, until I realized it was we'll.
I'm not sure if this is the start of something - or complete. I want top know more. Is there ever anything more...
The Adrian Mole Diaries - Sue Townsend.
Very funny, insightful and unputdownable.
Adrian Mole and the weapons of Mass Destruction - I think sadly it will be last, though I hope not - was absolutely brilliant.
