What an interesting thread this is. I've nothing to add, I just thought I'd let you all know I'm enjoying the read.
OH! Sorry, but I've thought of something - some American films (mooovys in U.S.speak) are unintelligible to me these days, they sound like they are speaking Double Dutch...
Charles Bukowski is a genius - I presume that's who you mean?
No - his books are not the the same as each other at all!
The only one I wasn't too keen on is 'Women'. Nothing can possibly appeal to everyone, but I don't understand why he isn't read more here in the UK.
His name...
If the registration number is wrong - don't pay. Just keep quiet. If/when you get another demand - point out their mistake.
I've had a couple I felt were unfair. I argued politely. They still demanded. I paid £5 eventually. They gave up on the owed £25.
It's not worth them taking you to...
Jacqueline Wilson I can't believe no-one has mentioned her.
She writes for all ages of girls. Her ones for teenages are brilliant. You must have heard of Tracy Beaker? I don't think it would be a man thing at all. But for women she's great.
Adrian Mole isn't a childrens book. Have you not...
Just thought I'd say 'I love Ask the Dust.' I read 'The Brotherhood of the Grape' first. That did nothing for me and I wonderered what Charles Bukowski was going on about in his praise.
It was a couple of years later I got 'Ask the Dust'. Then I knew! The rest of the Bandini books are good...
Yep. I do it all the time. I won't force myself to read if the book hasn't got me by the third page, sometimes I get halfway through.
I can go months without finishing one, then pick up four in a row which are great.
I do mean to try again with some of them - I never do though.
I don't appreciate the work of Raymond Carver either.
Best short story writer for me is Charles Bukowski.
I recommend you start with 'Tales of Ordinary Madness.'
Funny, straightforward to read and with has deep insight into life's problems.
wilderness Not everyoneloves Angela's ashes. Those who do really do though.
Frank McCourt writes so well in the voice of the age he is at the time. ie from four to seventeen or whatever age he is at the end.:)
Look out for the book at libraries, second-hand shops, boot-sales. He's...
widernessYou'll love his books. Just make sure you read them in the right order. It matters.:)
I have to say, don't be put off 'cos you've seen the film. The book is wonderful, there is so much more in it. It's a thousand times better than the film.
