I've just finished reading 'Teacher Man,' his third book. I've loved all three.
His writing gives me a high. He must be a wonderful man, I so envy you.
But what can say to someone you admire so much?
'Err um, hi, err um I really love your books.'
I think he'll have heard...
I just want to say that Morrisey is one of my Gods.If not theGod.:)
My personal fav is 'Take me out tonight' (is that the right title)
fav line 'and if a ten ton truck kills the both of us.' It always makes me laugh.
I love 'First in the Gang' too. and 'Girlfriend in a Coma'.
Damn...
I've never walked out on a movie, but I did walk out of the musical 'Cats'.
What a load of tripe.
The Horse Whisperer is absolute poo. In my opinion of course.;)
hey thermal I agree with you about Lord of the Rings:)
Both the film and the book bored me rigid.:( :(
I agree with nearly all of the above. A couple more...
The Green Mile I liked better than the book.
Midnight Cowboy was different to the book, both were brilliant though.
quote If you were in charge, what books would you require your class to read?
Well, I hate being told what I have to read, as do many others.
Maybe if there was a choice of about ten, a mixture of modern writers and classics, and the kids could choose from the list.
I hate, hate, hate, him.
It's all so slow, too many words, too much padding and waffle. That, I suppose was fine in the time they were written: before Telly and films and electric lighting speeded up the pace of life.
But NOW ? NO.
His characters are exaggerated beyond belief. Rather...
why do you read books you don't enjoy? How can you force yourself to finish them?
I don't understand.
My worst is 'Tale of Two Cities'. Again, like a lot of you - SCHOOL !
However, I still refused to read it. I did try though...I couldn't.
Red Dwarf - An utterly brilliant sit-com:)
There were loads of series, only the later ones were very poor. One of the writers had packed in - it just didn't work without him.:(
'Better than Life' is great, the book is better than the episode. Words and imagination being cheaper than...
Uplifting - because he punched them in the stomach. The punches which we have neither the opporunity, nor the wonderful ability to use language in the way he did to make his punch.
I didn't even notice there weren't any speech marks.:o :) :o
It's brilliant...the film was dreadful in comparison to the book.
His second book is 'tis. It's the continuation of his life in New York. Very, very good. Not quite as good as Angela's As, but well worth reading.
Well...I'm not into either politics or Harold Pinter ... But that speech was amazing and uplifting... I'm surprised 'they' haven't had him disposed of!
Maybe they knew no-one would listen.
You really should.
Withnail:) :) :) Isn't it wonderful? Love the scene in the tea shop. Love nearly all of it.(Excitedly jumping up and down 'Richard E Grant for God.' :) :) :)
Birdsong's the only war book I've ever read. Excellent!
I also loved 'Annie'. I missed it this year, does it stand the test of time?
It's written by Paul Abbott, there was a South Bank Show (i think that's what is was). He is just amazingly talented. He wrote State of Play, and just about every TV show that's any good.
Shameless is based on the life he was reared in. He's sure come a long way since then.
He wrote...
I hated it. For me it was a romance, I hate romances.
I did finish it though, so I've partly read hundreds which were a lot worse.
The Three Incestuous Sisters, I got that from the library. A hideously expensive picture book. It takes ten minutes to read.
The pictures/drawings I should...
I first read this in the early sixties. I've never seen the film. I'm reading it again at the moment, loving it.
Anyone here read it? Or seen the film? What do you think?
