    Unicorns

Not aout Unicorns, but Peter s. Beagle's 'A Fine and Private Place' is a fantastic book. Much, much better than 'The Last Unicorn.' Have you read it?

    Booker books, bonkers?

eldog_oz_2008 that's interesting and well done for completing so many. What did you think of 'The God of Small Things.' I know a few folk who say it's their favourite book. I've tried three times and given up. Haven't binned the book yet, should I persevere? 'Amsterdam' is caused me to...

    Booker books, bonkers?

I hated the sound of 'Life of Pi' but was given a copy as an present. It hung around for almost a year. I picked it up and never put it down until I'd finished - absolutely loved it.

    Booker books, bonkers?

I've tried reading a few but failed on most. I think 'Life of Pi' and 'White Tiger' are the only two I've enjoyed. I fell asleep reading 'Amsterdam' yesterday - although it started well. What is it all about? 'White Tiger' was poo-poo'ed by the snobby judges. No doubt because it's...

A book every teeng girl should read

I had anorexia for many years. I haven't read the book, but would a book about over-eating fatties be allowed in these PC days?

    David Nobbs

Well I've given you enough time to answer, but none came. That's fine, I'm content with my own company, one has to be on this site. He's a comedy writer most famous here in the UK for the 'Reggie Perrin" TV series. It was purchased by the US, but they messed it up and it failed over there...

    David Nobbs

He's one of my favourite authors and I decided he needed his own thread as I'm just finishing 'Pratt a Manger,' the last in his series about the life of Henry Pratt. One or two of you have read him, but more of you should, he's great. David Nobbs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Richard Yates: Revolutionary Road

Why would I be expecting drugs and rock and roll? Why would they make a book more interesting for me? I hope you just got out of the wrong side of the bed yesterday and today you will be sweet and charming. I didn't like anything about the book. The characters were all shallow, selfish...

    Richard Yates: Revolutionary Road

I was very disappointed with this book. I'd heard such great things about it.

    Does evil exist?

We are all evil. I can't just think of any other species which I'd call evil though. Why do we see is ourselves as superior?

    Best Western Ever

I'm not a fan of westerns. But Cat Ballou is worth a vote. Lee Marvin is brilliant as the aging alcoholic gunman. What about The Magnificent Seven? Do none of you like it? I love it. Desperado's another great film. Any other fans out there? I wouldn't call Midnight Cowboy a western...

    Frank McCourt: Teacher Man

I read this some years ago and I remember that I really enjoyed it. How can anyone not enjoy Frank McCourt?

    What have you planted recently?

I planted beetroot seeds yesterday. The tobacco seeds I planted last month are now big enough to to transplant to my vegetable plot, so I put most of those in there with the baby cabbages and brussel sprouts.

    Markus Zusak: The Book Thief

I've almost finished this book and I LOVE it! I can't understand why more readers haven't supported your thread. The way Markus Zusak uses words is so original, it brings meaningfull pictures straight into my head without having to wade through long boring descriptive passages.

    South Park

Don't tell me I'm the only one who may as well be listening to a crowd of Japanese,Chinese and Italian teenagers all jabbering away at the same time. It's SO difficult to interpret. Surely they aren't speaking our good Queen's English? That's why I prefer the great 'Family Guy.' Also...
