    100 Best Non Fiction

There are 2 or 3 on both lists which I *think* might be on my TBR list, but I have never read any of them (or heard of most) before so I can't really say. I was suprised that Wild Swans by Jung Chang wasn't on it... but maybe thats just because I thought it was good...

    Top 100 Challenged Books 1990-2000

Thats mean. :p Did anyone else notice the naked clown on a pojo stick in that picture? Well, it's probably just a skin coloured costume, but that was disturbing for a second there... Anyway, it's "Where's Wally" in the UK and in France it's know as "Où est Charlie?". Where exactly did...

    Personal Book Database

I was using LibraryThing as my primary database, but as I was fast approaching the 200 book limit on my free account I switched over to Listal. It takes time to add everything in and to tag, but I think it is worth it. I know a lot of people are trying to get the option to be able to change the...

I can't believe I went out today and only brought back 1 book! A Song of Stone - Iain Banks It wasn't really a book buying day for me. More fabric. :D

    what's your book shopping process?

I'd love to have all nice and new books, but it's too expensive for me without a job. :p Some of my books are brand new (or were). I usually buy all my Garth Nix books new and a few others. At the moment I have a £10 voucher for WHSmith and I'm spoiled for choice. :D

    I'm going to be crushed

 I don't think I could part with them. The very thought makes me feel like this smilie... :(

    what's your book shopping process?

I'm going out in about half an hours time to go round about 7 second hand shops looking for books and heres what I usually do in them: Skim all the shelves looking out for any names and titles I recognise as something on my wanted list. If I see something I really want then I'll grab it, look...

    June 2006 Reads

Books I finished this month: My Sister's Keeper - Jodi Picoult Wild Swans - Jung Chang I was ill earlier this month and had a gap of 5 days in which I couldn't do any reading because I just felt awful. I'm just glad I got through Wild Swans. :p Also read 4 volumes of manga, but they were...

    Lovely and abandoned words

Excellent! :D Another word from me: mendacious. I might have to stop soon or I'll clog the board up. :p Here's the link: http://wordsmith.org/awad/index.html

    I'm going to be crushed

Books are starting to overflow from my shelves now too and I've decided to go looking for more books tomorrow with a friend. I don't think I could ever say "no more till this lots done" because it simply isn't possible. I try to keep my TBR shelves as organised as possible, with the ones I...

    Lovely and abandoned words

That is a great word! I'm going to have to see if I can incorporate it into vocabulary. I just remembered another word I rather like: Cacophony. :D I just signed up to the A Word A Day site and have started listing the words I come across that I like/don't know. I find that a...

Last paragraph in the book you're reading now

Sacrilege!!! But seriously... I haven't read any of the paragraphs posted and I don't plan on posting my own. I'd never want to spoil the story, though I do know people who always read the end of a book first.

Night time reading: Can you do it? Do you do it?

Night time has been one of my main reading times for a while and I can't imagine going to bed more than 2 nights in a row without reading (unless I'm very ill). The latest I've stayed up reading before would be about 3am. On a usual school night I only stay up reading til about 12 or 1am...

    Lovely and abandoned words

In the last book I was reading I came across clandestine quite a lot and looked up it's meaning. Strangely enough my English teacher asked our class (of 5) if we knew what it meant and I knew! :D In my current book I've come across many words like this, but only wrote down 3 as I went...

    Forum favoritism towards fiction

I've been reading a lot of non-fiction lately, but I don't really know what to talk about with it. Fiction is more open to discussion than non-fiction because the author's main aim is to present the facts in non-fiction, but in fiction the author is more free to manipulate the story to make it...

    Chinese Historical Fiction

I think Chinese Cinderella is actually an abridged version of Falling Leaves. The latter includes both the author's childhood and adulthood, whilst the former is only about her childhood. ;)
