I really enjoyed White Noise but haven't read any others yet. Even when I wasn't quite sure what was going on in the book, I remained entranced by it and wanted to keep reading.
I know nothing technical about laptops but when I bought mine, my main considerations were size and weight. A number of people tried to put me off because the keyboard is more cramped etc and I have external drives for CD/DVD/floppy but I love the fact it's small and light. I can fit it into...
Thanks Muggle. I will try that with the library. That's the pain about living out in the sticks. The "evening" sounds as if it was really interesting. She's certainly led a fascinating life.
Maya - I can't comment on "Portrait in Sepia" because I haven't read it yet. Also, I don't know...
I've only read House of Spirits and I did love it. Her imagination and style really grabbed me. I also think she's one of the best authors for making you care about her characters, no matter how flawed they are.
Out of the two books you've read, which did you prefer? I'm only asking...
I haven't read the Haslam book but it sounds like it only present the realist perspective. I wonder if it also presents alternative viewpoints to get a balance or maybe it's just a reader on the development of realism. Did you flick through it in a bookshop? I'd be interested to hear what you...
I've never read any Stephen King so can't comment on that. But I do like to read all different kinds of books. Sometimes, I just want a satisfying read that is quick and in that manner, I enjoyed Mario Puzo's The Godfather, some Jeffrey Deaver books and the Lord of the Rings. Other times...
I admit I watched it. Come on, it's a cultural icon! I'm always amazed at the difference in tastes of the different competing countries and how political the voting is sometimes. Can you believe they actually had a semi-final to see who would make it to last night? Bring back ABBA :D
I think the title is Snow Falling on Cedars but it was soooo dull that I may not have remembered it correctly. I was expecting something great but, YAWN, it was dull and I didn't care one iota about any of the characters.
Thanks for the glueing tip Freya! I could definitely slap his smug face all day long too. He's definitely one of those people who incite extreme feeling.
I was given this book but haven't got round to reading it. I must admit that I was pretty put off because of Jeremy Paxman. I just find him so self-obsessed and arrogant.
Did his 'Paxoness' come through in the writing? That would definitely stop me from reading it
Is anyone going to the Hay on Wye festival at the end of May? I'm thinking of going along but can't decide which day to go. I'd love to hear Philip Pullman though.
I've never been before so would be grateful for any advice from anyone.

I'm so jealous of all you people having summer weather. It was hailing here about an hour ago and it's still pretty cold. The worst of it is that I can't put the heating on because I've nearly run out of oil. I rang up to order more and it's 32p a litre. I nearly cried.... Sorry, I'll stop...
I didn't know Canada got Coronation Street  I have to admit I do sneak a peek fairly regularly and that has been a major storyline. I won't give the game away though! Unless you want me to of course ;)
I think it's because the Queen's head of state, so only she has the right to dissolve the present parliament before the next one is elected. And you're right, it is only a formality. She has to give her assent but isn't really in a position to deny it.
