Sometimes the actual author reads the book (Bill Bryson being the first to come to mind). So you could write a novel and hope it is successful enough to warrant being turned into an audio book!
This is a great idea! I didn't think I was one to judge a book by its cover, but some of these are on my TBR list now!
These are my favourite covers from some of my favourite books:
This is for "IT" by Stephen King, and is from the Polish version. For some reason, I find it very scary...
Poppy: I use it as my screensaver too! It's a little distracting sometimes. I switch between that and Composition V..and, well, most of the others from the link I posted :)
I really enjoyed "In The Electric Mist With The Confederate Dead" by James Lee Burke.
It has a nice mix of suspense, the spritual and history, with what I found to be a tremendously likeable protagonist. The story is set in Louisiana, so there is a lovely atmosphere that makes you feel hot...
We did a little bit on Adrienne Rich in one of my sociology units at uni. See here
I like her poem "Aunt Jennifer's Tigers", although to be honest I haven;t read much of her other stuff.
Couldn't give a toss. I actually bought a second-hand copy of Foucault's Pendulum and when I flipped to the back there was a heap of handwritten notes by the last owner where they were questioning and researching some of the theories. Brilliant stuff - what a delight to get a bit of personal...
Don't spoil the ending!!!
I wish I could read "High Fidelity" again for the first time. It was the first time I'd read anything from the non-horror genre that wasnt for school, and I laughed so hard.
And I guess "It" since it's my fave.
No offense, but...bleeccchhhh!!! Have you read any of the original trilogy?
I read "It" all the time, usualy just my favourite parts, i know it so well I skip the boring bits.
I'm always rereading. I think it's because I read before bed so I want something familiar that won't keep me up...
I agree. Lots of people like Stephen Fry's versions better, but I heard Dale's first so I'm used to his Hermione voice (funny stuff).
I've also listened to Hitchiker's, A Short History of Nearly Everything, A Brief History of Time, Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, and the BBC versions of Lord...
I'm quite partial to Stella Artois and Coopers (pale). I'm not a huge fan of any of the major Australian beers, but as they're cheap and on tap at most pubs, they're what I end up drinking.
I really enjoyed TTT best of the books. I think Tolkien wrote battle sequences particularly well, since these usually put me off a book but Helm's Deep had me enthralled. Treebeard was a great character, the reintroduction of Gandalf, the Rohirrim, Faramir (hooray!!!) etc, etc. I was a bit jack...
I am by no means an expert in any form of art, but I think what most intrigues me about abstract art is that the viewer is free to apply their own interpretation to it. This is true for any form of art, of course, but I think there is more freedom in abstract art i.e. you can look at a painting...
Reaaaallityyyy Biiiittesss!!!
also:
Can't Hardly Wait
The Matrix
The Sixth Sense
Toy Story
The Castle
err.. that's all off the extreme top of my head.
PS these are chosen as per my viewing choices in the 90s, not what I think of them now. Although these are all still pretty good...
I agree. I've seen him at the falls festival, in the bush with the sun going down...bliss! Such mellow music, but he has a great deal to say about indigenous rights and the environment. What a guy.
Is anyone else a fan of his movies?
Eternal Sunshine is one of my favourite films and I thought that Adaptation and Being John Malkovich were brilliant.
I'm quite excited about his next project, again with director Spike Jonze, but I haven't heard a lot about it.
