I saw Constantine the other day. Bleeeecch. I know Keanu can't act, but he was particularly bad in this one. Maybe I just wasn't getting it, but I struggled to watch the whole thing.
Probably been said, but I'm not trawling through 273 posts to find out.
I didn't read any of the three Dan Brown books I've read for the genius of his writing style. The da Vinci Code interested me because of the subject matter, and kept me interested via a fast-paced, interesting story.
My little brother quite enjoyed the Spot series when he was about this age. Lots of lift-the-flaps fun and three word sentences. The series also progresses so it can take your child through learning clolours and numbers to their first day at school or meeting new friends.
Stewart, I disagree with you (I seem to be doing this a lot:D ) about King.
I do, however agree with you (gasp) about Laymon and Poe. I read a Laymon book (some crap about a bracelet) by recommendation that he was the new King (perhaps I was unwilling to like him out of spite). Snooze-fest...
"Tommyknockers"? "It"? Have you people gone mad????
Nah, seriously, each to their own. As long as no-one says "The Stand", I won't be forced to send out telepathic bitch slaps.
I like everything that I have read of King's, I don't really dislike his newer stuff, but I can see how fans of...
My favourite King novel is "It", but the movie(telemovie, whatever it was) was awful for so many reasons that I won't begin to mention them here.
I liked "The Shining", both the Kubrick version and the version that King later wrote the screenplay for.
I think King's books are often made...
I realise that this is an old thread, but the hippies won the series that has just aired here and I would like to say WOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
That's karma for ya!(Take that Mo-Jo)
I would like some of the cartoons I watched when I was younger, e.g.:
- Captain Planet (he's our hero, gonna take pollution down to zero...awesome)
- Widget the Worldwatcher
- Hey Arnold
- Orson and Olivia
- Are You Afraid of the Dark get another vote from me!
- Gumby
- Pinky and the...
As my old pal Shakira used to say 'whenever, wherever' (or is that the other way around?)
I've read on buses, trains, trams, one aeroplane, in bed, the bath, the car, at work, at uni (shhh!!!), out to lunch, whilst eating dinner (I get told off for this), on the loo (I get told off for this...
Completely agree with this. Also, people who, when a band or artist becomes popular, rushes to look up their entire history and walks around going "Oh, they're/he's/she's such a sellout now. I much prefer their old stuff like..."
And I think I've said this somewhere here before, but I HATE it...
Book: Shakespeare's complete works. Never been able to totally grasp his stuff, which is why trying to decihper it would keep me amused for a while.
Film: mmm...The Royal Tenenbaums (or could I cheat and save a few to a video iPod?)
Music: all of silverchair's albums. I assume I'll be...
My friends, we are ten (official) days into a Victorian winter and that means four things: rain, frost, fog and temps hovering around the zero degrees celsius point.
The last couple of days I have nearly frozen walking to work, partly because the fog was so thick that I nearly lost my way. It...
I really enjoy this movie having seen it a few times. When it first came out I sat in the theatre with my arms crossed and a pout on my face, barely containing my urge to yell out "Bring back Michael Keaton!". It is nice to see the back story of Batman given some attention. Downside: Katie...
Put in my vote for the Deppster. Edward Scissorhands - awesomeness.
I also like Anthony Hopkins (despite a couple of dodgy movies ), Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Angelica Huston, Jim Carrey, Tim Robbins, Bruce Willis and Ralph Fiennes.
Oh Stewart.....I disagree!!!
Family Guy humour aside, I enjoy King's forewards/forwards/introductions/brief notes/whatever. They often serve as a buffer zone to ease you into whatever world he has built for the story. His conversational tone and use of anecdotes allow the reader to build a...
Too lazy to read back through the thread (kill me if you must), so apologies if I'm covering old ground. Here are mine:
How to Survive a Robot Uprising - Daniel Wilson
Candyfreak - Steve Almond
The Know-It-All - AJ Jacobs
The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook - Piven and Borgenicht...
Jealous-much!!
Our local library is very small and contains the oddest assortment of books ever. If you're a fan of Australian history and trashy romance, by all means come on down. They don't have sales, there's just a trolley of books (all about 50 cents) that they fill all year round. Of...
