I was pressed for time earlier:
-
This is the first book in a trilogy thats called Oswald bastable sequence - it's a alternative history/fantasy that has some very inetresting appearances by historical figures. This is colelcted in a Nomad of Timestream. The other 2 books are The Land...
I like his Elric novels, some more than others and Moorcock is one of the genre's most influential, and greatest authors ever. However, most of the books you picked up are his sword/sorcery work, (including Elric), and IMHO thsoe represent his worst novels (which are still good).
Moorcock...
War Fever is available and excellent, as is Memories of the Space Age. There is The Best Short Stories of J. G. Ballard.
There is also the The Atrocity Exhibition, but I don't recommend purchasing that until last as it is more of a completisi's item then anything else,
I'm reading a couple of works:
Vellum by Hal Duncan which will be released in August - you may want to preorder this book, this is one of thr finest debut novels I have ever read thus far. For synopsis/cover I posted it at FBS Here
Don't miss this. This is a tremendous read.
The...
I agree with a l ot that has already been mentioned. Ballard is a semi-god IMHO, and I reviewed a Miller's A Canticle for Leibowitz Here.
Another I just want to throw out - more recent is the Neal Gaiman/Terry Pratchett collaboration Good Omens.
Which is my entire argument, and one that I think justifys not liking an author's work. If not, what else?
I don't take away anything from the impact some authors, many of which whose quality is questionable IMHO, have had on the industry-side of the genre. It can be argued that without...
Thanks - I received it a couple of days ago.
I'm in the middle of writing (okay let me stop lying, I'm about to begin writing a review) for Mr. Oliverez's work, and because of that I'm just going to say I was pleasantly surprised - a damn good first effort. I will be sure to buy your...
I voted Elantris, that and Delaney are the only 2 on the list that interest me. Eddings is among my least favorite authors ever, and I have read the Stroud book which is worth forgetting.
I am aware of that - I think they are both pretty dire, I was just mentioning Deathgate to stress that I don't Weiss and Hickman aren't very good writers in or out of there shared world setting. As noted by this statement I said:
Just a note for fans of Weis and Hickman's Dragonlance work (I'm sure you alkeady know), but they are currently writing a new series featuring there old popular characters Raistlin etc.
Admitedly, I don't like deriviative, formulaic, fantasy whose authors show no growth after years to practice their craft - who still render their stories in a prose fitting of some coloring books.
The Death Gate Cycle has a permanent place in my top 50 worst fantasy series ever.
I don't likr to post, just to say I don't like something so I'll be short - I absolutely think that within the Dragonlance series you will find soem of the worst examples of fantasy ever written,, and that Weiss and Hickman are if not the msot overated authors in the entire genre, they are...
By no means am I suggesting my opinions on what is bad, mindless, or for that matter good, in any way should be taken as anything other then my opinion. I think they are low quality authors, that's why I mentionrd them - by all means anyone can fill in whom ever they want instead.
If we...
Yes, I just failed to update it here - July 4th as schedueld confirmed by both Glasgow and Ireland.
My ARC shipped this week, so I'm defintely getting it.
I read everything, I read pre-19th century fantasy and many books by authors whose first books haven't been published yet, and have found when they published the work has no bearing on quality.
I'm not particularly interested in changing somone's view - there is simply no evidence to...
