    Jonathan Safran Foer

I have this book on my wish list/to read list! :D - so I did not read all your post, Shade as it may spoil things for me. But seeing what people think of the book, was great and I cannot wait till I get my hands on the book. I like the cover design as well. Flower

    Religion & Reading

Hi Ions, I am not sure what you mean by tackle, but I have read some books dealing with religion. For instance Kierkegaard. (A Danish philosopher). I find it very interesting to read about religion both culturewise and philisophically. Flower

Life on the Color Line: The True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black

I know its not the same book, but its the same theme! In "Human Stain" you see a black boy growing up, pretending to be a jew, works as a proffesor and no one thinks he is black. But the truth ends up appearing in his life in ways he could not imagine. Its about race, age and family and I...

    Spammers

Here is the lecture one: http://forums.thebookforum.com/showthread.php?t=7300 Okay, I see! The difference between posting about your book and wanting feedback + also give feedback to others, and then just making one post about your own book.

    Spammers

I am fairly new here and I understand that people making up other fake names to review their own material is spam, but this guy is honest. Why do you have a problem with that? Shouldnt he just have posted this in the writers section? or is there something I am not getting here?? Flower

Large book chains vs. small indep.stores-which do you prefer?

You got me wrong! I am not for shopping where they are unkind and with a lack of service. My local bookshop has started to work with a large book firm. That shows that the bookshop knows that it has to something extra for its customers in order to give them a good service. The fact that I can...

Large book chains vs. small indep.stores-which do you prefer?

I dont mind paying a little more for a book at my local bookshop cause if I only went into the city and the local bookshop had to close then I would end up paying more for my books anyway as I would have to pay for the transportation to the city, so it all adds up. Not to say the time I would...

Large book chains vs. small indep.stores-which do you prefer?

I am sorry to say this but the attitude you display here I find very upsetting. This is the attitude which will end up killing nice cultural place in a community and make the place to be all about money. Flower

Large book chains vs. small indep.stores-which do you prefer?

I also like to browse in a bookshop, but our local one is very small. So I find my self using the internet for browsing books. And thats okay too, sitting at home with a cup of coffee late at night reading about all the books I wish I could afford. :D Flower

Large book chains vs. small indep.stores-which do you prefer?

I try my best to support our local small bookshop as I would hate my part of town end up being a place without culture. I live in the outskirts of the Capital and I would hate it if I had to go into the city to buy books or buy them online. Our small bookshop is online, so I can place an...

I was at Amazon.com last night checking out reviews and I found that people also make something called "So you´d like to ...Guides". As I am reading Dostojevsky at the moment and are new to all the Russian writers, I was interested in reading reviews for different authors. Then I came across...

    Fyodor Dostoevsky

Nice to see a Russian on a Dostojevsky thread! :) Would you like to share what you came up with in your essay about Dostojevsky? I am just starting to get to know Russian Litterature, so I am very curious. I have a friend from former east germany who also read a lot of russian writers...

    overcoming depression

Ecks, I am glad that you are starting to do something nice for your self as its important to do something you enjoy. Depression is really a hate towards yourself. You have been taught how to think about yourself and how to treat yourself. But remember this is NOT the truth about you! You...

    Fyodor Dostoevsky

I cannot speak much about other books than The Double and from what I understand and hear from other people. But would it be fair to say, that the people Dostojevsky writes about, try to change their world by doing things outside, in the world arround them? Instead of changing from the inside...

    Fyodor Dostoevsky

I have read "the double" last night. I shall return to this thread soon. My cat died today and I feel very sad. I had her for 14 years. I cannot concentrate on anything. Flower

    Up for a book exchange?

How about joining the bookcrossing.com? If you dont know it, its very simple. You register your books, label them and set them free for somebody else to find and enjoy. You get to read what other think about the book if they report back. Just a thought! :)

    Fyodor Dostoevsky

Great! :) I cannot wait to hear what you think about the story! Its always nice when someone else reads the same book. I shall read "the idiot" afterwards.
