I don't know if Annie Proulx is always so brilliant in her writing, but Brokeback Mountain is freaking genius. I've read it several times and get something great out of it every time.
I'm not sure of the significance of 4, other than their second meeting is after 4 years. Actions always...
At the local library here we also have the one hour rule. I honestly couldn't imagine allowing any more time unless the library had about 50 computers available. Most of the computer users at the library here just use it to chat with people, which is kinda... scary lol. The best way to solve...
Libre, that was a lot how I felt when I started the Dark Tower series. Though I actually really liked the Gunslinger, it wasn't until I finished The Drawing of the Three that I got so excited about the series. Honestly, I think TDOTT might be the best thing King has ever written. It is soo...
I got hooked on Stephen King from reading Pet Sematary, but if you're really familiar with the movie I would try something else like 'Salem's Lot, Cujo, or The Shining. If big books don't scare you, most people consider The Stand or It to be his greatest acheivements.
Arthur Golden - Memoirs of a Geisha
Stephen King - Bag of Bones
Truman Capote - In Cold Blood
Janet Evanovich - One for the Money
J. K. Rowling - ..Half Blood Prince
I saw a performance of the Vagina Monolgues and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen and the most serious thing I've ever seen in my entire life. I haven't read the book, but I'm sure it would be just as touching.
James Baldwin - Giovanni's Room
Baldwin's 1956 novel, his second, was daring for its time, depicting a young man deep into Paris's second expatriate movement following World War II as he grapples with his sexual identity. He is drawn both to his fiance and to a male Italian bartender with...
This movie really is going to be a classic. Perhaps partly because of all the awesome lines from the movie ("If you can't fix it, you gotta stand it," "I wish I knew how to quit you", there's more.. i'll have to watch it again to remember) People will be saying "I wish I knew how to quit you"...
Mine is organized by Stephen King and Not.
Lol well, it's a little more in-depth then that. but 90% of the books I buy are stephen king, so they all go in one shelf, and books by other authors go in a different one. All of my paperbacks are mixed together though.
I LOVED that book! I've only read one other Crichton book (Jurassic Park) but he seems to be an amazing author. Someday I'll have time to read Timeline.
I'm trying to think of a specific example, but I know a lot of the opposite has happened to me. There were some books I absolutely LOVED as a kid, and now as I read them I ask myself what I was thinking.
Wow I wish I could read 9 books in a month.. my list is pretty short, but was pretty good for me:
1. Stephen King - Cell
2. Lois Lowry - Gathering Blue
3. Louis L'Amour - The Daybreakers
The Daybreakers by Louis L'Amour. I don't know what the world record is for most novels published, but this guy has got to be in the top 10. This was my first book of his, but it was really good for a western which I a genre I usually hate.
Ooh! Nice stash! Most of my books are scattered here and there. My main book case in actually hidden in my closet, so they aren't as displayed as nicely as I'd like. I'll try to post a pic if I can though.
Great thread, by the way.
I don't know any specific websites, but if I wanna know the worth of something I have I usually just go to ebay and see what others are selling it for.
