Hi Steffee - sorry but I tend to have several webpages open at one time and get caught up:o
Thanks for the link I shall read it fully whilst cooking my supper:D It's a very confusing world out there when you dare to google Nabokov. There's pages and pages of the stuff leading us to ponder...
That's who I think it is and I'm sticking to my guns. There is the other give-away - for want of a better word - the very last sentence in the book: "And now he said (Cockerell), "I'm going to tell you (the main narrator) the story of Pnin rising to address the Cremona Women's Club and...
Weelllll, I'll give you something to look up:p
I may be way of the post here but our main narrator - insect man - says on page 31 (chap 2.1 para 6) 'Technically speaking, the narrator's art of integrating telephone conversations still lags far behind that of rendering dialogues conducted...
I have a theory about a second narrator. Who would know the workings of Pnin's mind? The book - and hence Mr Nobokov - tells us of one character who knew enough about Pnin to provide entertainment at our precious russian's expense. But I'll keep the name to myself for a bit - just in case I...
Just as well you used 'un' in your answer:p I think you're in cahoots with the Nobokovs (and Amazon).
As for Peder - come out, come out wherever you are. Life is just not the same without his invaluable insight. The camp fire is aglow but we want a blaze - so let's hope he hurries back...
Bah, er units per week - I probably don't drink more than the recommended units in a year:eek:
What's the wierdest dream you've ever had - that you can remember;)
I'm from the UK and most of my personal library consists of books by american authors bought at the usual big book stores (Borders/Waterstones etc) plus WHSmiths and smaller high street book stores. I've never used Amazon although I have scoured their website for reviews.
I'm with you - I tend to leave off my reading list pure romantic fiction and westerns.
As for non-fiction - that all depends on what interests you. There's so much to choose from: travel, space, science, education, politics, memoirs/biographies, history - the list goes on and on.
da-daaa!! Drum roll if you please. I have finished the book Pnin:D And once again I am in awe of the author. What a delightful little book. As for our gentlemanly Tomofey - what a character. I had to smile at the narrator's comment in Chapter One (eigth para) 'It was the world that was...
And let's not forget the narrator(s?). Although I have not yet finished the book VN gives the reader little tidbits about the narrator. And it's an interesting point (to me anyway) how VN includes the reader - not just Pnin but also Lolita and The Enchanter. For you true Nabokovians who may...
