    Series Lists

Internet Book List is something of an equivalent of Internet Movie Database for books.

Do you judge a book by its cover?

For me the cover of the book can definitely decide whether I buy the book or not. If it's a cover of a movie adaption which promotes the work with celebrity actors, I would definitely not buy the book.

    Literature Survey - Help Appreciated!

Through grades 10 to 12 I either could choose between several books or choose freely so I haven't had any really negative reading experience. Of the few that were forced upon us I had a very positive experience of the following two short stories. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins...

    Libraries

I almost only borrow from the library. I don't get much satisfaction of owning a lot books. It's mostly just books that I've read and want to read again that I purchase. The online database here makes things quite simple as you can check at which libraries the books are available. I don't...

    Strange call .. help

I don't think that there are many active arabs on this forum. You could go to a kebab shop and try to get it translated, but don't be rude, at least get something to eat at the same time. I'm quite fond of falafels myself. Otherwise you could just go to a mosque.

    Books you never quite understood

One of the editions that I've read even had translations of the words in the back of the book. Don't think I noticed it until halfway into the book. Burgess supposedly wanted the readers to sit with russian dictionaries to get a better understanding of the words however.

Spielberg supposedly used the song "Små grodorna" because he thought that it sounded creepy but I don't think that anyone who has witnessed the dance that goes along it finds it creepy.

    The Book-buying Experience... :)

I like it when books are placed so that their covers are showing. That way you don't have to tilt your head and skim through the books to find what you're looking for. I think this is in the interest of the store owners as well as covers can sell themselves sometimes or at least ignite...

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom) by Kim Ki-Duk. This had several similarities with "The Isle" on the surface (torture of fish and frogs, and floating houses) but it was so moralistic that I wouldn't have guessed that it was the same director that...

    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

Burton and Depp isn't a combination that I'm fond of so I'm probably going to wait a couple of years until it's shown on television just to see if Wonka is portrayed as the bastard he is in the book. I haven't seen the move adaptation with Wilder but I doubt that it's going to top the Swedish...

    Christian Fantasy and Science Fiction

"Job: A Comedy of Justice" by Robert A. Heinlein. I haven't read it yet by the "His Dark Materials Trilogy" by Philip Pullman is supposedly based on christianity to an extent.

    new age music anyone?

My favourite is Sephiroth and the album "Cathedron". It contains both relaxing gloom and rythmic drums in a wonderful combination. You can listen to samples at Coldmeat.

    Kevin Smith

"Clerks", "Mallrats" and "Chasing Amy" are entertaining to me but I'm not very fond of "Dogma" or "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", they're not very similar to the earlier movies.

"The Return" (Vozvrashcheniye) by Andrei Zvyagintsev. It's about two young brothers that go on a trip with their father that has been absent for 12 years and he tries to teach them tough love. It has plenty of eye candy and it turned out to be much better than than the impression I got from...

    anyone in to asian films?

I'm usually not very sensitive to video violence but this kind of scenes still affect me. There's a similar scene in The Piano Player (La Pianiste) by Mikael haneke, based on a book by the latest Nobel prize winner in literature, Elfriede Jelinek.

    Meg Cabot

I haven't read anything by her but I've seen the movie adaptation of the first princess diary book and that made me wonder what feelings the author has for democracy.

I'm currently listening to "Amerika" by Welle Erdball.

Step right up! Get yer Jesus Doll!

Do you claim that jesus didn't have blue eyes either? The jew is just trying to make money. Faith isn't for everyone.

    Robert Heinlein

Or you could try library so you could keep your hard earned squids even if it means that you'll have to deal with brown stains that you hope is chocolate. Because "Tunnel in the Sky" is a book for "youths" and even though most of Heinlein's youth books have a higher bar than others, the parents...
