Yes, I found the intricate webs of family relations, political ties, friendships and emnities, old flames and all the rest were sometimes quite hard to keep track of, and thus it loses some of its drama whilst you wonder just why these two are at each others throats or whatever it may be.
Ah yes, Mr. Motivator. Sorry, that should be arrrrrghhhh nooooo, Mr. Motivator...
I sincerely hope that I'm not connected to THAT Richard Simmons in any way-I also ran a search and found his gurning visage, but thought that perhaps it was some obscure literary reference instead.
All my nice editions, i.e. hardbacks and some new, pristine paperbacks, I care for as if they were my children, but I have quite a lot of old, rather battered titles in my collection as well, and due to the rigours of constant transportation to and from my seat of learning some become a bit...
I experience a very similar problem. I start writing a story, brimming with enthusiasm, only to have finished perhaps a page or so then find that I either did not think the plot through enough and consequently it makes little sense, or that I'm just not happy with its standard. My hard drive is...
Can we ever actually write history at all? Total objectivity is impossible, sources are incomplete, not all events are referenced and noted, and, as Carr put it, only a very few facts are selected to become 'historical facts,' that is, facts considered pertinent to history and used in its study...
Most of my books are neatly arranged on the shelves, but books that I have just read, just bought, propose to read soon or dip into frequently are littered across my room-desk, sofa, floor, PC desk, everywhere.
When I discover an author whose style I really like I'll tend to go into a purchasing frenzy, hunting down anything and everything written by them (as clearly portrayed by my monstrous Pratchett, Tolkien and Asimov collections), but nonetheless my bookcases have probable at least 60 authors'...
Is he the author of Loser? If so, then I have to say that, in this case at least, he certainly does not appeal to me. The book is completely uneventful, the central character, who from the synopsis sounded like a truly free and interesting individual turned out to in fact be dull, irritating and...
The first series that I really enjoyed would be the Biggles books by Captain W.E. Johns. Good stories, ranging from wartime high-jinks to inter-war thrillers, I remember them being very enjoyable, and in fact I still have most of them lurking around my room somewhere. Currently my two favourite...
Ah, a good point-I forgot that Guards, Guards was pre-Eric as my mother's currently reading it and thus it is not on the shelf containing all the Pratchett books in order. I really enjoyed Night Watch as well, the darker slant creating a whole new type of Discworld, making it seem fresher than...
Ah, so THAT's your secret-you think by pretending to be a rabbit you can hide your true form, that of the mouse (well, hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional being-same thing.)
Arrrrggghhh, now this is really messing with my head. Who is Richard Simmons? And why is he so narcissistic? And, most pertinently, what relevance does he have to me?
Oh, it's not the entire history, just a few select bits. Problem with the Nazis is that they never conquered the world. Then they would have been great material (assuming I could write anything about them without it rendered illegible by the censors, of course.)
