there is a discussion thread on Wizards First rule in the fantasy section for those who are interested.
WOT by Jordan. Can't wait till it's finished only cos it's drifted along for the last few books. I believe Jordan has lost the plot :D . Which is why he is writing prequels at the moment...
I am currently reading this book, my thoughts
from this thread
I read a further 80 pages last night, it's skipping along OK but the events feel contrived, and are there to flesh out the 770 pages. I am beginning to think that I won't be buying any more in the series.
I read eddings as a teenager and enjoyed them. Although by the time I read tha Tamuli I was older and my taste in books had matured. I found the plot too transparent.
However for young adults I would recommend them.
Catch 22
Same for me David lots of numbers.
Started to read it then gave up pretty fast as it didn't seem to go anywhere in the few pages I read. Was along time ago though.
Back on topic
Currently reading Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind.
I have had a copy on my shelf for ages and...
The War of Powers - Robert E. Vardeman
A prolific writer.
I read The War of Powers, years ago, it was published in 1984 as a omnibus, which is when I read it, originally published as 3 books in 1980. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have looked for a copy on ebay and second hand bookshops to...
Ubik - P.K.Dick (1969)
A classic scifi author.
Synopsis (stolen) :) : Glen Runciter is dead--or is everybody else? Somebody died in an explosion orchestrated by Runciter's business competitors, but it's hard to tell who. Filled with paranoic menace and unfettered slapstick, Ubik is a...
might have to give those a go.
I was refgerring to the Serano Legacy. I like Space Opera, but horse riding:confused:
What are the themes of the books you've mentioned?
Hmm?
Linking the 2 movies into the present (last 20 years) political climate.
A brave analogy, but simply miss-guided. If you read the book then compare it to the film and the HBO mini-series you'll notice that the mini-series is more true to the book. The Lynch film (i have not seen the...
Read the other thread on this, but I thought I'd start a fresh one.
My idea is to have a reviews forum.
People post their reviews in the format of the library, which is explained by a stickie.
eg
Book: Author: Format: Pages: Publisher
Rating: As per library out of 5
Genre: eg scifi...
Agree here. Medieval with magian, and gunpowder. Numerous characters, which makes it a fairly complex read.
I have just started Wizards First Rule, by Terry Goodkind. Heard really good things about the series (7 I think).
Edit: My really bad typing, and worse spelling.
Judge Dredd Has got to be simply the best character ever!
Other notables
Conan, just loved the simplicity of this character. Fight, drink, eat, steal, womanise, all off your own back with no help from the gods. CROM!
Doc Strange More a thinking mans (or womans, to be politically...
The Queen of the Swords - Michael Moorcock.
Moorcock is a very prolific writer, especially in the 70's when most of his Eternal Champion books , Elric, Jerry Cornellius, etc. were writen
The Queen of Swords is the second book in the Corum Series. Not as good as Elric books but it all fits...
Read a review somewhere, can't remeber where. It said that the book was well written, and not and muddled as the last couple in the WOT series.
Also that there will be a further 2 prequels to come.
Still feels like Jordan is milking it for all he can get. I would rather he finished the...
On Basilisk Station by David Weber.
I've made a couple of posts on this series, as I have been reading it over the past couple of months.
First in the Honor Harrington Series.
Military scifi in a similar vein as CS Foresters Hornblower. Planetary and system conflict, space battles, etc...
Who uses book catalog software?
Which one?
How do you rate it?
How much did / does it cost?
I ask because I have been looking for some software. I've got books all over the place, I have even bought books twice, plus I can't remember all my 'To Buy' books.
Even if you don't have...
I nearly always fold the corner. Top corner, bottom corner, small amount, large amount, eg nearly half the page to mark my place.
Occassionally on the times I don't fold the corner it's book open face down.
What's all this 'ethics of reading', 'respect', 'Learn from my shameful example!'...
