Most movies for me are pure entertainment. There are a few rare gems that stand out which make me sit back and think.
The one that springs to mind, which I am surprised no-one has mentioned yet is Schindler's List.

her site Seems she writes poetry as well, makes me worried that the book is filled with verse. One of the things I did not like about Tolkien was his page long songs etc. The Gift (The naming in the USA) is compared to tolkien on a few sites.

I read a lot of Eddings when I was a kid and thoroughly enjoyed them. The Diamond throne is about a knight called Sparhawk who has a quest to save the queen from a mysterious illness, of course caused by the evil character (memory fails).
After reading the this series of books I gave up on...
