I guess there is a long to go when people still hold the belief that it's women who are nurturers and men hunters. Either person can do the job, if they wished to.
In my family I go out and earn the money because I have a far higher earning capacity than my wife...
Agree here
Totally dissagree here. there is sexism in our world and shows up clearly in industry. However wrt marraige, the man is definately the underdog, well in Australia and the UK.
eg A friend of my wife was married to a lady who happens to be a drug addict, she embezelled loads of money...
Come on people I voted for Midshipman's Hope by David Feintuch. Follow my lead and I swear I will buy and read this book. Hell I'll read it even if it does not win :D
I s'pose, a bit like the cowboys in the wild west, spitting on their hands before they shake, it symbolises a commitment, contract, agreement etc. Not using that analogue to demean marriage, you could jump over a broom to get married, or even go to a church, it doesn't matter.
I guess this is...
You got married to achieve a way of life and a live country that you desired to live in to the man you wanted to be with. Nothing wrong with that. It's was the easiest way to achieve your goals. I would do the same.
2 days stopping for food and one session of sleep, Finished the book, I am a 217 word per minute person, so I teake my time.
In one session, 18 hours I guess, food and toilet breaks included of course
There has been a lot of marriage = commitment being written in this thread. Therefore I assume that the ppl writing this were never 100% committed to the relationship until they were married cos they could always walk away from it.
I’m repeating myself here but, after being married and...
I think a lot of it stems from the good ol' days and was used to define who your rightful heirs are. Some cultures you have to be married ad the kids you have become your heirs, in others you can nominate be they children born out of wedlock or just any one that you wish to choose.
The problems...
That's right they changed the rules slightly, although they do not make it easy. Getting to the stage of finding out the best way to get the passports took about 6 months. Mainly because the people at the British consulate in Canberra were worse than crap. I am going to offend some people here...
is that a zire 72. This is the one I have. What e reader software do you prefer?
I use mobi-reader and I am thinking of up-grading so it scrolls automatically. Good to see you getting into the classic scifi books as well.
Reading The Verdant Passage. good ol' fashioned pulp fantasy
the unpleasant hum / rattle of the AC, fridge and water / cooler heater in my room.
Silly me I have a laptop with 4 gigs of music.
Now listening to
Don't marry her f**k me, by The Beautiful South.
People in this thread should find my choice amusing, well some of them :D Who do you...
Not out to offend just my opinion.
I have been with the same loving partner for 7 years, 2 sons, 5 and 1 yrs old. I actually got married last year, not because of pressure from my wife, family or anyone, but because it was easier to get UK passports for my sons. If I had not gotten married...
wow
I go to sleep, work then have 5 pages to read.
A lot has been said and I will repeat some here, but what the hell.
Aussie law recognises common law marriage. so sign the paper or not then you are in for that pound as well as that penny.
Make the commitment in church, a hotel, a...
The name thing is easy. Change it by depol. In Australia it is cheaper to change your name than it is to register a marriage! Sorts that one out.
Tax in Australia goes on who is dependant on who, ie 'wife' and kids. So no gain there.
Assuming you live in a western society then getting married should not be done unless there is a gain to be had.
By gain I mean something material.
IF YOU LOVE you partner and your partner LOVES you,and you get along with each other, then signing a piece of paper to get married...
I read slowly I guess and definately vocalise the words in my mind, the words that I just recognise as they appear are those wierd sci fi names. I either just recognise them as a glyph or make an easy sound to associate with the word.
I find that I have such a busy life that my mind will...
