I think one of my friends are doing the right thing. She insists on not reading the book before she's seen the movie - that way she won't be disappointed with the movie, but rather pleasantly surprised by the book. But for me it's far too late for such a maneuvre.
Already in Philosopher's...
Snape has been one of my favourite characters all the way through, and I'm having a very hard time deciding whether I think he's good or evil.
His hatred and bitterness is most definitely genuine, but considering:
1. While Albus and Harry were in the cave Dumbledore kept telling Harry that...
I know of a girl who started smoking with this reason: When I kiss him it tastes so bad because he smokes but if I start smoking too I won't be able to taste it.
Now how's that for brilliance?
@ Robert - Sounds like a motivating way to think of it. Just goes to prove my suspicion that at least half the work is done by the right mindset when it comes to quitting the smokes.
Regardless of whether it's easy I'm just grateful I won't have to bother with it.
And about the monetary...
@ Robert - yeah, and I only just noticed that what she quoted was not yours but someone else's - it has been corrected - my apologies for pointing at you so undeservedly (is that even a word?)
And yeah, her post did sound bad, true enough. To me it sounded full of bitterness towards things...
Nono, not at all, and it wasn't meant as anything snide. I was just puzzled... and perhaps a tad amused that you'd get on here when something that sounded like it was rather important for you was needing to be done.
Mind you, I do such things myself - catch myself browsing fora instead of...
How was that an attempt at being superior? To me it sounded like someone who has experienced the pain of losing someone to the cigs and had a hard time seeing the fun in blueboatdriver's joke.
As for answering the question: I'm a non-smoker. Was heavily allergic to it when I was younger and...
LOL Some change is so undoubtedly for the better that no one will bother to argue :p It's clearly only the matters that aren't black and white that'll cause a stir.
So when you need to focus on redoing that file, you get on here and look for distractions... uhhhhhm, yeah... not to sound impertinent, but that doesn't sound incredibly productive to me. Why?
LOL You may, at your leisure, replace bungee jumping with whatever you tried once for the novelty of it and tried twice to find out whether you actually liked it or not. My intended point remains that sometimes the novelty of something makes you forget to notice whether you actually like it or not.
Very much agreed, the only of the Stickies there I can see a vague point with is the "Recently Purchased" since you can't say much about books you have yet to read, other than that you're looking forward to it.
Mari may be on to something.
Also consider that trying out something new can be exciting - in this case also because it was Nobel winner, you may unconsciously have added some value to it in your 'digestion' of the book. Now it's no longer a novelty.
Hmm what to compare to.... bungee...
Well said, Kenny, and agreed.
Now I'm just sorry I actually posted something while I was too tired to make what I meant perfectly clear, because it is apparently very despicable to not have been able to express what one wanted.
*shrug*
I too have already agreed that the post count is...
Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have tried to make an analogy in the middle of the night when not being fully awake.
It didn't at all represent what I wanted to say, it seems.
*sigh*
I'll refrain from making up anymore similar examples since I apparently am inept at making anything that'll...
Do try and keep my points seperate from those of others. I have earlier stated that I did not know how widely spread the PM-ing top posters was here and would this not comment on it regarding to that. I stated that if it a concern of the Mods it's a point that ought to be taken into...
Because among us elitists the most important thing is to prove that we're not elitists by fooling the enemy by saying the others are elitists ;)
As for the rest:
I have now noticed once again how people think a forum should reflect how everyone is worth equally much - out in the real world...
Having a forum called The Book Forum intended mainly for discussion of books is intellectual elitism. So in order to be completely fair to everyone who may or may not stop by here I suggest we get rid of all seperate fora and lump it all together in one mish mash. There are to be no differences...
