Heh Erikson's Gardens is on my TBP list so far - I'll try and get my hands on it asap so we can read it simultaneously :)
I also need to find the English version of the Earthsea books, I've only read them in Danish - though in a good translation for once, but I'd still like to have the English...
Everybody keeps telling me I should read GG Kay, yes. He's on my TBP list, so I'll get there sooner or later. Just don't recommend it too heartily - I'd hate to be disappointed again just because my expectations were unnaturally high :p
I dunno about this idea. Out of principle I like it since we shouldn't have to tell authors that they can talk about any book but their own on here. That's not really cool. If on the other hand we can tell them that they should go to this particular sub-forum if they want to talk about their own...
The fact that you got a book for a bargain can be mentioned in a thread about the book itself. I know I've done so, didn't take away from my jubilant feeling.
Delete it. I must assume that if people buy books they will sooner or late end up on a 'Currently Reading' spot and somewhat later than that be posted about in 'real' topics.
Nancy Drew had a dog - but she's hardly a little girl :/
One of the girls of the Famous Five has a dog, Tim. There are 3 other protagonists, Julian, Dick and Anne. George (or Georgina) is the one with the dog. Could this be it?
I acquired the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series from eBay not too long ago. Haven't had time to sit down and read them yet, though, but I'll let you know when I get there. From some of my friends I heard they were really good and a joy to read - spite of their length. Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is...
I've only read Song of Solomon, but I loved it. I was simply caught up in it, and spent quite some time living and breathing with the characters - not to mention dying. That was a fantastic book. I'll check out her other stuff at some point - they'll go on my TBR list for sure :)
You called it subjective morality I call it morality vs. opinion at times.
There are rules that should never be broken necause of morality - you mention some yourself, namely when your breaking of them would endanger others.
However, when an internet forum has a rule against double-posting I...
Personally I'd say eliminate Terry Brooks for now. Read his books but don't let them take higher priority than other things. His plot is very very similar to LotR. So similar in fact that I have seen several avid Brooks fans turn around and say "He's a hack!" once they'd finally read LotR.
His...
Ack, I seem to be making a habit of getting people's gender wrong these days. Sorry about that. I must defend myself, though, I simply caught onto the fact that feminism was suggested as a criteria you might demand, and I thus concluded: Ah, must be a woman then, since I find it is seldom men...
I can add nothing to the previous comments, but say that I finished To The Lighthouse for one reason alone: It was required reading on our Literature syllabus this semester. So I struggled through and never have I liked a book less.
After the first 50 or so pages I wanted to stop, but fought on...
At a book sale some time ago I bought:
The Encyclopedia of Unusual Sex Practices
The title alone had me mentally in stitches so I had to buy it, but dear gods the look the clerk gave me when I went to pay for it. I have never seen such a hilarious mix of wonder, curiosity and utter distaste on...
Not a bad idea. I'd be the first to post a topic for Edward Rutherfurd's books - well I'd try to be the first at least, I'm sure others have read them as well :p
Reminds me of an old classmate of mine. Sometimes the teacher would reprimand him for not having done his homework - that, according to my dear classmate, was racism. Nevermind that everyone else had to do their homework too and behave decently, but when Shahrouz was told to sit down and shut up...
If you check one of the Feist related topics you'll see what my gripe was about Magician. It was a good book, and I suffered from this sort of artificial dissappointment, simply because the book was not perfect and as fantabulous as I had been 'promised'. I posted a longish comment on it in my...
Golly, I didn't know I'd been elevated to such status so soon after I started posting hehe Now I feel all important :D
I'll add Ainulindale to the list though, she(am I getting the gender right?) has made lists of fantasy books I haven't ever heard of :p
Welcome on board either ways...
