I’m somewhere around just shy of a quarter through it.
If you enjoy her music, I’d say it’s easily worth it.
Some bits are straight out written (or “written”) by her, others are based conversations with her co-writer and other bits are interview-blurbs from various peeps. So it’s pretty...
Continuing some spoilish stuffs
Indeed, indeed.
I just (may have just) felt and/or hoped that he was moving away from her.
I was thinking he was confused. Getting acclimated. And/or discovering more about life. Transforming; which is a great part of what these ‘coming of age’ tales can...
**potential SPOILER STUFFS to those that may wish to read _Norwegian Wood_**
No sweat. I didn’t write it. Or even recommend it.
Some books work for some, some don’t.
You wanna see “negative”, I’ll tear into Stephen King or some other hack for you ;)
Ah. I stopped doing that many...
I haven’t read a Travis McGee in awhile so I picked the one I’m up to, _Dress Her In Indigo_, this morning.
The 11th of the series.
Also started Tori Amos’ autobio _Piece by Piece_, which will be a occasional pick up/put down book. As is most non-fiction for me.
Aside from your choice of verb being *way* off, “sex”, as you say, can also be heavily influenced and built on emotion; clearly the soft undertow of the story was the “love” (if you will) between Reiko and Toru.
Emotional, possibly spiritual bonding; a special relationship between two...
I picked up _Song of Kali_ after hearing Harlan Ellison praise it as (something like) 'the best book in years'.
Well, I wanted to toss it on the fire within 10 pages. I gave it a chance to nearly 100 pages and it just continued to suck (and *hardly* shock or scare) and go NOWHERE.
If this...
Not necessary.
I couldn’t (thankfully) place the song myself, but when I read the book I looked into the lyrics just in case HM used them in any significant way within the story.
I’d have to say he did not.
But for the curious, here they are.
“I once had a girl,
Or should I say
She...
While maybe you shouldn’t answer this question, or at least maybe highlight it with a ‘spoiler’ warning, as we don’t want to reveal anything to Maya, but why do you add that comment to your recommendations?
While again I’m just relying on my memory, I don’t recall the first chapter being...
Probably the finest article I've seen. And it clears up some inaccuracies and inconsistencies that have come before:

Quite simply, it's taken from the song by the Beatles with that title.
And while it plays a part of the story, this is not giving anything away as, if memory serves, it's mentioned within the first handful of pages.
HM uses tons of music and music(al) references within his work.
I...
Maybe so, although I am not being defensive in the least (my lack of caring in the area certainly wouldn’t place me on the offensive either).
I wasn’t quoting you. As the saying goes, ‘emphasis mine’. (hence the stars and not quotes)
I understand. I was just trying to bring it back on...
Yes, 31 years of it.
While your description does fit, although any description would fit for a place _that_ big, I do think “uninformed” leapfrogs all of those you listed.
And I don’t deny Freud’s *great* contribution to culture (although I would hesitate to say “science”), but I verrry...
Hm. Yes, and such “reviews” were probably scribed by some that have *no* idea what a Geisha is…but let’s not get into “miracles”…
I saved myself the grief of reading it.
Nicely put.
Hmmmm, maybe. Certainly in some circles.
But I was basing my post on the General Reading Public, of...
I think this is *clearly* a difference in culture.
Take, for example, last month’s Chinese New Year festivities.
Animals, colours, grandiose parades, symbology, mythology, superstition, food, etc - all these things play a very large part of the celebrations and meaning.
Compare this to...
(If I'm not too late) put it down and read _A Wild Sheep Chase_ first.
Not essential, but (I would have to imagine) conducive to a better-flowing storyline, as it’s a sequel (of sorts).
Excellent suggestion(s).
Charles Willeford (_Miami Blues_) also has some books set in/around Southern Florida, and many of Elmore Leonard’s zany tales involve Florida.
