[watchin’ films instead of readin’ books]
Shirley you know it was sar-casim…
While I certainly don’t want people to feel they can’t post their thoughts in fear of being verbally assaulted by a few of us, but since it’s gotten a bit whacky already, one of the things I was thinking of...
Farenheit [sic] 451.
Hm. Well, I’m not a fan of Bradbury nor did I enjoy the book but I wouldn’t be that harsh on it.
And a book about censorship, book banning and book burning, sorry, *is* at least a “bit interesting”. Espeially in an English course.
Maybe your non-enthusiasm for the...
No doubt. I didn’t mean to sound as if it was a non-existent thing but it seemingly wasn’t celebrated as it is nowadays. Maybe. The whole media thing clouds judgment in such parallel (or attempting parallel) thoughts.
And as I’ve stated, I’m certainly not an optimist, especially when it comes...
Now that you mention it *all* books have a decided lack of spanking.
Well, maybe not _The Story of O_.
And platypus fondling. I’ve yet to read a solid novel with a satisfying platypus fondling section.
I remain, in wait…

True.
And for that I would then say that I don’t think fiction writers take themselves seriously enough.
Sure, some do. John Irving, whose work hasn’t been interesting in years (maybe decades) seems kind of serious – at least about himself.
But I’m not sure if many (any?) actually care...
Now what kind of fool would I be to *not* try to make your wishes my command? ??
I’d rather provide a link but can’t find one; I still have it in Word though.
So, my apologies to Craig Clevenger for potentially breaking copyright and therefore will make a comment that people should check...
Any company (business, practice, etc) with such a rule should be shut down and/or its “management” should be arrested on criminal charges.
True. And I’m still waiting for the day for a female politician to be proud she’s a female and not try to act like one of the boys. Cuntaleeza (sic)...
ok, no biggie. I only reiterated as you mentioned anyone coming onto a book could then be labeled fresh take.
Maybe fresh, but still dealing with the established continuity is just what I meant.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating them, but I just don’t see them as anything terribly...
Without getting into spoiler territory:
I would agree with you to a certain extent, but with never having been married, raising a kid or even given so much of my life to anyone (or anything) and then losing it all, to me, hammering out every detail seems…therapeutic. I do it in my head, why...
Clevenger’s little piece, which I mentioned previously, compares Brown’s typing ability to that of pulp “romances” (which is I think is supposed to mean pornography but little old ladies wouldn’t like that).
I can dig it up for you if you’d like.
Hmm. Well, I’m not sure anyone is writing...
[Snickering] Well, I’m in enough heat as it is with the Potter fans, I’m not about to get the religious nutters after me now too. And I’ll take a break from the word “intelligence” for awhile…but in this case I’d change it to “sane”.
But I agree. [Running for door]
Nope. Never seen any...
“We are back in a new dark age of the imagination.”
Damn, I wish I wrote that line.
Jennifier, you’ll see you’re not the only one still tossing darts in The Code, Jacobson assaults it thrice in this article…(it’s fun!)

I understand. I was once like that. And then it just got to the point where I realized there is just *far* too much _other_ stuff to read (or even re-read) rather than wasting time on a struggle. To me a ‘review’ of “it sucked; twas an ordeal to get through and I regret doing do” and “it’s...
No blood; no foul.
I wasn’t worried.
ohhh shush and take a curtsy or two…
It _might_ be a bit rough going in Frenchy…but yes “intriguing” is a great word for that particular book.
Well, I attempt them from time to time, of course not hoping they are bad. So yes, I generally will...
I see where you’re coming from. Only in a few cases would I question it though. Although I like him, I’d wonder exactly how a conversation with Thomas Pynchon would go (not that he has any with many – that we know of).
Sometimes maybe one just has to wonder who the writer’s ‘reader in mind’...
That’s the problem with reading plays (but they’re still worth reading). One of his that may work a bit better solely on the page is _Die Physiker_ (“The Physicists”); pretty nutty and funny. In a sick way.
For his novels _Justiz_ (“The Execution of Justice”), _Das Versprechen_ (“The...
I'd think this is a bit rough on a translation (but you could cross-read them)
If you have questions post them up. Tis one of my favourite novels.
(maybe start a AILDying thread if you do have some ?s)
Good luck and enjoy it. And tell Vardaman, that poor kid, I said hi.

Well, he may not have worked with that at all. It’s still debated (well, between weird people)as to whether the apple story is true; some say Voltaire made it up, others believe Stukeley -who published his memoirs and claims to have been with the Good Sir on the very happening.
You don’t...
As I said, I like a little mystery, but digging in the dirt aint my bag.
Actually I did at least “once” address you and quote you. At least.
Feel free to look back, we’ll wait here. […tapping foot…]
They were out of context. “Context” out of context need not apply.
If you’d like to...
Nice to see some honest and thought out opinions there.
Sad to see someone admit that they’re simply continuing with the series “out of habit”.
I just don’t understand this concept. If something is waning in interest finishing it just to be a ‘complete’ist’ is beyond me. But I guess most...
