My pockets are usually empty except for a hankie, but, being a woman, I carry a mighty big handbag full of all kinds of stuff I can't do without. What do you do when you can't sleep at night?

    Hello, everyone!

Hello there! Welcome on board. I'd have loved to be in a college class like yours (I have a history of disliking most of the required reads but discovered many classics on my own later). I love LotR and also liked His Dark Materials. Geeky things in general are fine with me. And I love...

Looking for a good Medieval book....

If you don't mind time travelling being involved, go for "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis. A great, intelligent, fun read about a modern-day visitor travelling into 1348 England.

We have a glass door that's hardly ever open. The one time it was closed that did not deter a visitor from trying to walk inside anyway. (He made a nice big bang and left a greasy stain on the glass at forehead level.) What do you do to vent your frustration when faced with utter incompetence?

Children's Books you still love to read today.

Oh, yes. Anne is one of my oldest companions. I don't know how many times I've read those books and still love them. The Potter series is fantastic, too, but I didn't actually read that as a kid (I was in my late teens by the time the first volume was published and didn't start delving into...

    Favourite Poems

I'm not much into Bukowski either, but I really loved that poem I quoted. "So you want to be a writer" is great, too. I didn't know that one.

Do You Think Books Turned Into Movies Do It Justice?

I used to think movies hardly ever did the books justice, but I changed my mind as soon as I began to realize that it's not about bringing every single scene of the book to the screen, but about capturing the essence of the book. I'd still say that I enjoyed the book more than the movie in...

What's It Like By You Today?

Ugly! We had snow on top of some icy rain yesterday. Now it's around 0°C, i.e. getting slushy, and it'll be sure to freeze over again tonight. Yuck. Winter sucks.
