Sorry if this takes us off topic, but I guess you've also seen the miniseries?

Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers is also fantastic.

    All time favourite Albums

Some of my big favourites: Bruce Springsteen - The River Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around Loreena McKennitt - The Mask and Mirror (if I have to pick one of hers - actually I love virtually everything she's done so far) Elton John - Made in England Billy Joel - River of...

(I guess you're referring to the "tradition" question, Sneezy?!) My favourite bit is celebrating Christmas Eve with my parents and sister as we've alwas done since we were little - a small dinner followed by songs and prayers and my stepdad reading the Nativity story, and then we exchange...

    Mindf**k movies.

I loved Dark City. The idea is a bit like The Matrix (which came out a bit later), but I liked the movie way better - I prefer that Metropolis-like retro feeling to that sterile futuristic world.

Dreading it, actually. It's nice to look at but I hate the traffic chaos that always seems to go along with it. What's your favourite place to spend your vacation?

    Books for Christmas?

I see your seven pages and raise you ten :D I'm like sparkchaser - I prefer a good book from my wishlist to any kind of well-meant stuff I don't actually want or need.

    Construction of your personal library?

I have a kind of study-meets-library with custom-made bookshelves that have been overflowing ever since. My unread books are sitting in a landscape of untidy stacks along the wall, and there are growing mountains of books I've read because I have a certain system of order on my shelves and don't...

(@sparkchaser: here's more about Hotel Noir!) No wassail in Germany (interesting custom - I just read up on it. I only knew the song "Gloucestershire Wassail"). What's your favourite Christmas tradition?

Where are you? (in the book you are reading) - please read 1st post

I'm at an Army base in Hawaii and have just tried to seduce my superior's wife.

Something along the lines of "the Prince of Tides"?

Oh, thanks! Looks like we've got a similar taste. I read and loved Middlesex a while ago, and Shantaram is still somewhere in my vast landscape of unread books ;)

Yes, a nostalgic 1950s-style movie called "Hotel Noir". What was your most dreadful holiday to date?

Something along the lines of "the Prince of Tides"?

You're welcome, Kwitel! I'd love to hear your opinion on these if you read them.

    Umberto Eco

I really loved "The Name of the Rose", but I had a hard time with the Pendulum. I thought it had a strong beginning and went more and more absurd from there. Maybe it's just too intellectual for my poor little brain.
