    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

Wheel of Time is not a terrible series, and Jordan isn't that bad a writer. I did enjoy it to begin with (though you might not if you are too familiar with Lord of the Rings, to me the first book's plot was way too similar and it was all laid out just like the Fellowship) The problem is that he...

    Favorite Future Utopia Work

1984, obviously, is a classic, with good reason..And also Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's Tale - luckily I got to study it for A-Level which was great, really interesting. :)

    Umberto Eco: Foucault's Pendulum

I have that edition too, got it in a charity shop, it's very nice indeed :) And I also have the edition which has the picture of Jacques de Molay and lots of colours on the cover .. HarperCollins I think. But yeah..somehow I have two editions. :p

    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

It's by Robert Jordan and it's a sort of Lord of the Rings plotline but much longer.

Stephen King: The Dark Tower 1: The Gunslinger

I don't know, but I simply could not finish this book. I did try very hard but I really didn't like the style and couldn't get into it. I really hated the characters as well, which certainly didn't help. It's sort of put me off King in general now, I'm not sure if it's worth reading any of his...

    Umberto Eco: Foucault's Pendulum

It doesn't necessarily require a dictionary..it's not that the writing style is very difficult or anything, more like it makes references to a 1000 different things which it would be interesting to look up. An encyclopaedia, or just Google, would be handy to look for information on a lot of the...

    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

For some weird reason I had a dream last night about the Wheel of Time series..there was a shelf and it had all the books on it, and I picked one up at random and it was the 45th book in the series  Scary thing is I don't know how exaggerated that may be in a few years..

    Philip Pullman: His Dark Materials

Yeah, the idea of film versions is great - something similar to the plays but with the advantages of movies to make it look really amazing, but there's no point in that if they make it a hollow, meaningless story.

hardback or softback books? Which do you prefer?

Yeah, paperbacks are just generally easier. But sometimes it's nice to have a hardback simply because it's so easy to get paperbacks ruined and covers bent and stuff like that.

    Umberto Eco: Foucault's Pendulum

I'm currently reading it and yes, it was a great effort to get through the first few chapters. But I'd heard so many good things about Eco that I was determined to get into it and I'm very glad I did. I won't tell you about the plot cause I'm only about 3/4 way through, but it's definately...

    Crushes on fictional characters

Actually mine is Philip Pullman too...Will Parry from His Dark Materials, I dunno I just always liked him a great deal - plus the guy who played him in the National Theatre production was nothing to complain about either :p

Who is your fav fantasy character of all time?

    I've always found Rand Al'Thor a little irritating :o

    Edgar Allen Poe

    Robin Hobb's 'Liveship Traders'

Yeah, I am waiting for her new book to come out in paperback and I'll definately be getting it, cause it looks very good. :)

    Laurell K. Hamilton

Yeah I don't know..the book seemed pretty good but to be honest the reason I didn't buy it was cause of lack of money :p But I was just wondering if it was worth getting from the library or anything. At any rate, I think I might give her a try, as I could do with something trashy and not too...

    Laurell K. Hamilton

Has anybody read A Kiss of Shadows? I read some chapters of it in the bookshop and was wondering if people think it's worth reading? Is it really complete trash or is it genuinely a decent entertaining read?

    Robin Hobb's 'Liveship Traders'

I just bought the first book of Robin Hobb's 'Liveship Traders' trilogy as I've heard a lot about these books and was really interested to read them..can anyone tell me if it's okay to read the Liveship series without having read the Assassin books beforehand? Will it all be a bit confusing or...

    Mervyn Peake and Gene Wolfe

My dad is always encouraging me to read the Gormenghast books..I really must. I've read extracts and I've never seen such incredibly atmospheric descriptions.

    Across The Nightingale Floor

I have this book on my To Be Read list, I've been meaning to read it for ages..have the same cover but in gold and white colour scheme. I may read it sooner than I intended now since it seems like people are pretty positive about it.

    Edgar Allen Poe

I was wondering if anyone else has read any of Poe's short stories or poems? I recently read him and I really, really enjoyed him. I'd never read any kind of horror before, so I'm totally new to the genre but his stories were chilling and captivating. 'The Raven' is my favourite poem now, I...
