The His Dark Materials trilogy is my favourite series of books ever, and Pullman my favourite author - I think the books are all different enough to be interesting, but they continue the plot well, there's a lot of continuity between them. I think the characterization is great, and the ideas...
I have only read 'Fight Club', but I will definately read more by him..I love his style. I read 'Fight Club', I must admit, because I saw the movie and absolutely adored it. So I thought the book must be great. And it didn't disappoint me. But who prefered the movie to the book, or the other way...
Sometimes I remind myself of Emma from Jane Austen..then other times I feel I'm more like Humbert Humbert from Lolita (WITHOUT the perversity..just his general inadequecy and attitude lol)
I read Memoirs of A Geisha when I was only about 11 and it was probably rather 'adult' for me then..but even so, I enjoyed it immensely, it's an incredible book which I think will stay with me forever. :-)
I would recommend, to go alongside Angela's Ashes (which by the way is a great book) Roddy Doyle's Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha.
I also think that something like I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, or Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, which also deal with other issues surrounding the protagonist's personal...
I didn't think Lolita was that difficult to read at all.. I just finished reading it and I think it's an incredible book. The vocabulary is very average really - the only difficult bit is probably the French, if you don't know the language. But that isn't essential. I don't necessarily think it...
'Lady Chatterley's Lover' really, really annoyed the hell out of me...I just couldn't stand it, it seemed to go on and on and on, just moaning about nothing..It seemed as though DH Lawrence hated one side of life, then came up with a solution, but immediately started hating that too...I ended up...
I love second hand books for their well-worn, old character, it's quite nice..but one thing that annoys me is that you can never really tell which books are going to be there at which time, it's just chance if you find a good book. So if you're after a particular one, it's easier to buy new...
I get quite sad and tend to breathe a deep sigh..something like regret on finishing it I guess. I always spend some time to think about the book and never start another book the same day. But, then again, if it was a really rubbish book, I'm usually a little relieved..
I thought the translation from book to movies of LOTR was excellent, personally. They couldn't have made them much longer, so they had to make exclusions, however important these aspects seemed in the books. And I thought the films were altogether very faithful and really depicted the books...
In my opinion, it's Little Women. I absolutely adore both book and movie, and I think the movie was pretty true to the books, as well as being a well produced, wonderfully acted film.
I absolutely love them! They're my favourite books and I think they're incredible, so unique and addictive, I have re-read the whole series three times and seen the dramatised production at the National Theatre (which was surprisingly good)
Yes, I know about the Paradise Lost thing, and I think...
I just finished 'The Last Kingdom' by Bernard Cornwell and I'll definately read more of his books. I liked the style and thought it was really engrossing and addictive read, as well as really informative about a period in history I have a huge interest in :-)
I WAS reading Stephen King's 'The...
I have broken up with someone because he hated reading and had probably never read a book in his life. But it wasn't only that, I guess. He also had the smallest intellect I've ever known, and was closed-minded and irritatingly uninterested in anything I had an interest in. So, yeah, it never...
I suggest Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, I think it looks really interesting and I'd love to read it!

- Complete Works of D.H. Lawrence
- Complete Works of Vladimir Nabokov
- Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre & Tenant of Wildfield Hall, Bronte sisters collection
I've just started The Gunslinger, which is...
I don't know, I really want to read it as well, I just looked it up. And I remembered the name of the novella - An Eye for An Eye. Anyway yeh I can't wait to read Knife Edge!
Oh my God you just reminded me of that book, I read it so long ago..but it's one of my favourites ever, and I too cried a great deal at the end. It was so touching and I was hooked straight away..I read it in two days.
Have you read the novella which is a sequel to it? I stupidly can't remember...
I read Memoirs of a Geisha, when I was about 11, and was perhaps a little too young for some of the content! Nevertheless, I absolutely loved it, it's an amazing book and I'd recommend it for anyone interested in Oriental culture/history. :)
Thanks :) and yeah the first half wasn't really as good as the first half. I haven't read the Isle of Battle yet, but I will get round to it..I have a rather long To-Be-Read list!
