R. Scott Bakker's The Darkness that Comes Before is an excellent book, first of a trilogy. Martin's influence is there, but this author definitely has his own style. Bakker is a new voice in fantastic fiction, and I can't wait to see what he does next. But sorry - the love stories aren't real...
