    Heartfelt Sympathy!

What is/was needed in the indian ocean is a proper system to warn people of impending disaster. This would require more than a phone call to a country to tell them that a tsunami is on its way. Firstly there would have to be a specific hotline to call so the said government can put into action...

Could the Tsunami Disaster have been prevented?

True the tsunami couldnt have been prevented, but the disaster could have possibly been reduced with an early warning.

Could the Tsunami Disaster have been prevented?

I dont believe that in the aftermath of this disaster that people are actually nit picking over "who said what and what they meant by it"! Obviously some people enjoy a "spirited debate" and thats fine, but when people start introducing issues of racism it starts to detract from the debate as an...

Could the Tsunami Disaster have been prevented?

Very well put Baddicther. This event was a freak of nature, hard to predict impossible to stop. Life can be so cruel. We are born into a world of potential joy and opportunity and the catch is that it can be taken away in a microsecond. But the irony is that without death life is meaningless.

    Heartfelt Sympathy!

Its incredible how this thread has degenerated into a slanging match. If we can't discuss these matters in a civilised way on a forum like this then its hardly surprising that governments cant communicate to help prevent disasters like this happening. 125,000 dead so far and counting and all some...

    Heartfelt Sympathy!

I wonder if the southern edge of the tsunami that headed for open sea simply faded? Or did perhaps Africa feel some minor effects?

    Heartfelt Sympathy!

Thank god we seem to be relatively safe from the more severe ones. We actually had two within months of each other and they were pretty quick.I cant imagine the terror of a sustained quake.

    Heartfelt Sympathy!

We actually had a quake a couple of years back here in the UK.I Think it was about 4.5 on the Richterscale.Never having considered quakes in terms of scale I was shocked to find that people a couple of miles away felt it too.I was even more shocked when the media told us that it was felt...

    Heartfelt Sympathy!

We have heard rumour that our local hairdresser has been caught up in this disaster. Its apparent that the tragedy is going to reach far and wide in the months even years that follow. I dont suppose that it was ever considered a threat before Sunday. Geographically it doesnt look like there...

    Heartfelt Sympathy!

Its too shocking for words. The sheer magnitude of the event opens your eyes to how insignificant we really are.

    Rest in Peace Dimebag Darrell

I was lucky enough to see Damageplan at the Download festival this summer and the were brilliant.Dimebag was without doubt one of the greatest musicians of recent years. Watching the reaction of the 70,000 crowd as they played the Pantera classic "Walk" was incredible. Sad to say that very...

Never judge a book by it's cover, or should you?

Now you come to mention it I think I am influenced by by the art work. Its not so much that I am drawn to good art work, more that I am repelled by bad art work. And for reasons unknown to myself,I am never inclined to buy a book with a photograph on the front?!

    James Herbert

I think "The Rats" is a book that most people read when they are younger.I think I was 14 or so.At the time I thought it was great but in retrospect it seems a bit lame. But i guess herbert was still learning his craft at that stage. I never got round to reading the two sequels,i wonder if they...
