Michael Tonello: Bringing Home the Birkin

Great book, just finished it. Recommended. ;-) Michael Tonello's Bringing Home the Birkin is not like any of the other books I have recently read/reviewed. It's definitely non-fiction, but more of whimsical and personal tale of a man who fell into a business unexpectedly. Prior to his...

Books on North Africa in WWII? ...

I've been meaning to read about this for some time and a question on another forum piqued my curiosity. Can you recommend a book that covers say, the North Africa campaign of WWII, Rommel, and the British? I've been reading Amazon reviews but I'm interested in opinions here too. Thanks in...

    What are your children reading?

No big surprises with the little one, she's tearing through the Harry Potter series. The 11 year old daughter enjoys historical fiction. My 10 year old son loves Hardy Boys books. ;-)

    Review: iWoz by Steve Wozniak

Thanks, sounds interesting, but kind of disappointing in the end. ;-( Too bad it was done the way it was, would have been a greaty opportunity to get inside the mind of a true genius.

    Rachel Carson: Silent Spring

I've read statistics that say around 1 million people die each year from malaria, many of which could be prevented by reasonable use of DDT. Take a good look at anything by the late great Julian Simon.

    Recommendations on Serbia/Bosnia war?

I'll keep an eye on this thread as I'm interested in the topic too. Over the last few years it sounds like the good and bad guys in this conflict may not have been as clear cut as we were originally lead to believe. So much disinformation ... it would be nice to see what is thought of it 10...

Jared Diamond: Guns, Germs, and Steel

Thanks for posting this. I heard about the book and put it in my queue. My one (significant) reservation is that I think I saw it was endorsed by Paul Ehrlich.

Books on True reasons of histories of wars and world politics

I recently read Empires of the Sea by Roger Crowley and loved it. I would also recommend When in the Course of Human Events: Arguing the Case for Southern Secession.

Lou Dobbs; War on the Middle Class

Thanks for the heads-up on this book. I haven't read it, but have read some of the author's comments over the last couple of years. I think he misunderstands economics and how trade works.
