March 2013: Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince and Other Stories

I don't think that's off topic at all. My grandma used to read me a story called "Little Black Sambo", which was horribly politically incorrect, but I loved it. I don't think it's the nice stories that stay with us, but those that teach us something worth remembering.

    Random Question..Keep posting

 We had a couple of huge bird kills here a few years ago - red-winged blackbirds. They determined that fireworks being set off on New Year's Eve were responsible - the fireworks didn't hit the birds, but scared them from their perches - they ran into things in the dark, or couldn't find...

March 2013: Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince and Other Stories

As I read these, I thought back to the books I read my own children when they were little. Definitely quite different. In most of today's children's literature, no one dies, nor is punishment for one's actions terribly severe. Basically, most modern children's stories are "nice." I wonder if...

Yes - I grew up on a chicken farm and some of the roosters would get pretty mean. I had to get stitches once. What do you take in your coffee?

March 2013: Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince and Other Stories

I did not vote for the Wilde, but I will put my two cents in as soon as I get a chance to start it. It's been a busy week.

    February 2013: Diana Gabaldon: Outlander

I hemmed and hawed over continuing the series myself. I have decided I do NOT want to read the rest of the series - partly because I have read a few of the synopses and I can tell that some of the books will just piss me off because the characters won't do what I think they should, and partly...

    Romantic book recommendations

A great romance where the people hardly ever meet but fall in love anyway is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Absolutely beautiful writing style.
