Is there a book you enjoyed so much that you feel anyone would enjoy it? How about a book that is relevant and thought-provoking, that gives readers a different and important perspective? Maybe a book that is a great introduction to your favorite genre? A book that would draw people in to...
I'm currently finishing up my MA thesis in an academic program state-side
I don't think you really need to worry about age. My experience in academic programs has been that grad students tend to be older anyhow. While most undergrads are 18-22, grad student ages have a much larger range. Your...
We've all seen films or programs where the main characters were cast because the availability of a certain Hollywood star coincided with the production (and budget) of the film. But what filmic stories out there have truly captured good characters with good casting? What roles and actors (or...
So often, people talk about the novels, short stories and other types of fiction that they read. But do you read any type of non-fiction? What kinds? Biography? History? How To? Cultural? Academic? When you read non-fiction do you do it for business (i.e. assignments or research for work or...
I just decided to put down Laurell K. Hamilton's Stroke of Midnight after only getting about a tenth of the way through. It's opening scene was just too absurd for me.

We've all read them. The books that keep us up late at night, that make us talk ourselves into another chapter despite dirty dishes or morning meetings. What do we love so much about them? Is there a downside? Do authors sacrifice anything in creating such fast moving plots?
I agree that sf&f produces the best mix of other genres. They've always been most willing to experiment.
Fantasy is my favorite, with SF a close section. I quite enjoy historical fiction, though, as well.
I can only read that much (i.e. upwards of 4 hours a day) when I make it part of my routine. When I take the bus in to campus, it takes about an hour and a half each way, so that's 3 hours. Then if I read at night, usually a fourth. But, mind you, that doesn't happen every day.
I have a friend who read the Historian with her book club. Everyone else read the print book, but she "read" the abridged audiobook (still 10 CDs long) and she ended up liking it much better than the rest of the book club.
I read at night if I'm not too tired already and I have an interesting book to read. However, not usually for very long. Reading often puts me to sleep if I'm at all tired
