It's official: Amazon e-books now outselling print books

I go through 34 books in less than a year and my electronic devices have a lifetime of 2-5 years. Hmm, I see how this could easily get tough for not-so-avid readers. However, what about using your tablet PC or PDA? You don't need any extra devices to read ebooks then. I hate the gray-on-gray...

1984 : Science Fiction or Political Horror?

It's funny that you haven't heard of "Brave New World". It is in fact so well-known, it has become an idiom. I think the use has faded a little, but some time back you actually got people saying "brave new world" all the time when the world produced another fitting booboo.

William Gibson: Distrust That Particular Flavor

Thanks for the info! As a crazy old Gibson fan (the man pretty much invented my fav genre, cyberpunk) I just have to get that one :)

Death of the book (and other media)

I wouldn't want to read newspapers on the classic kindle. Even if it was the new color one. However, I like using the kindle app on my Motorola Xoom at 10" size. Anything smaller and in ugly gray on gray just drives me away. Using that argument together with that of the people who start to cry...

    Interested in Reviewing?

Sounds interesting to me - at least if I can choose to review or not. If I think a book sucks i don't want to read beyond chapter 1. And what about that "Amazon Review Program"? Is it hard to join?

    Audible Holiday Sale

I prefer their subscription plan where you always get books for that price or cheaper (like 5$). But for those who hate binding themselves to that company, it's not a bad offer at all :flowers:

Bookstores may survive with this type of out-of-the-box thinking

No need to worry! Looking at statistics, most Americans probably can't or simply won't anyway. Bad for me though, considering I am one of the folks hoping to make people read his produce.

Flying soon? Watch what you read.

Hmm noting people's race makes sense to me, bad as it may sound. Try to look at it from the other side: An arab is unlikely to be a coo clux clan fanatic and some caucasian white guy will probably not try to blow you up while shouting "Allah!". It helps limiting the range of threats. Without...

    Actual places in fiction

I remember a book where they used Stonehenge. It really quite amplified the story in my opinion :)

Bookstores may survive with this type of out-of-the-box thinking

Can you sit there and read their books without buying them is what I wonder:innocent:

what's your favorite classical book you've read?

I think it was something from Jules Verne, but I am not sure which one. Followed closely by most of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

Would you read a series of books that are more then 30 in it?

I join my voice to the ones of two others before me when I say Terry Pratchett's Discworld. The very idea that an author could become dull simply because of having read a certain number of his/her books seems preposterous to me. If they can keep me satisfied to the point where I read more than...

    "Sweet Erasure" (cyberpunk short story)

After introducing myself on the appropriate board I guess I should leave a little something to introduce my writing as well. It's a short piece that has also become the first section of a larger story. I hope you enjoy it. Sweet Erasure Ian only caught a glimpse of the steaming surface...
